Oh DAMN it's a thing of beauty!! I am just blown away with the quality
of the game, it plays seamlessly from one setting to another. I'm
impressed with how much of the original game has remained intact.
I hope you boys are using headphones or stereo speakers when you play,
because the sound in cinematic 3D...the ocean wind whips around your
ears, the rain sounds like it's splashing all around...and the music
is gorgeous! (More on that later)
The game is just so colorful and lively, I can't get over it! He got
all the details just right, down to the old block letter print press
font for the interface and map.
And how about those wicked sexy barmaids? Hubba hubba! I also got
introduced to the governor's daughter...she's hot too.
The other neat thing is how the voices don't actually say anything
specific, but nicely imply spoken word to accompany the subtitles.
Very well done and very easy on the system. In fact I've got all the
details set to max and it runs perfect.
This is probably the coolest game I've seen. It's just got that
certain undefinable magic.
While installing, I noticed ALL the sound in game is in wav format for
easy modding. I opened the readme first, and noticed that the tobacco
trade has been removed from the game, which royally pissed me off.
(When reading the manual last night I saw it listed and was
excited...what a let down)
I've been digging through the game folders looking for the right .ini
file to reactivate it, but no luck yet.
A word on modding: Mark, I don't know if you got the Limited Ed. or
not, but the Special Content is right there, and directions for use
are in the Limt Ed. readme. Basically its a folder of extra sounds,
characters, sails and flags. You just copy them into the Custom folder
and presto! You get new music in certain spots, additional characters
(which leads me to believe that making custom characters is possible),
and extra flag/sail graphics.
So far the only things annoying about the game are the loss of tobacco
as a good, and that dorky entirely `non-accurate` "toy soldier" jacket
you get upon promotion to captain. Something must be done about that,
it's got to go! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
But these are little things...overall this game is 100% PURE JOY
of the game, it plays seamlessly from one setting to another. I'm
impressed with how much of the original game has remained intact.
