Wanted: One Mysterious Monk, preferably on Redmond Isle

I've finally decided that I've gone far enough in my current game of POTC, with Build 11, to try and figure out just exactly what those strange monks are doing in the archipelago.

I talk with a monk on Conceicao and obtain a cross from him, then I go to Oxbay and get another cross from the monk there, I then go to FdF and then Q.C. and wind up with two more. I also have a suspicion that the white, pink and blue skulls have something to do with this, so I carry a set of these as well.

One problem: all of the monks have directed me to go to the monk on Redmond island, who is on the shore, when I want to give back the crosses, and I can't find a monk on Redmond anywhere! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

Strangely enough on one of the Redmond beaches there is a locked door symbol that appears right near the waterline, but I can't make it do anything.

I wouldn't be bringing it up except for the situation occurring where I was able to locate two "Excellent" swords (cool graphics by the way,) that I was unable to keep because I couldn't save my game. This is the first time that I encountered "Excellent" swords in the game and I am looking forward to finding more, when I can save the game, and so I can use them on these nefarious monks.

Those crosses give you GREAT skill levels but you trade off by not being able to save games (yes, that's on purpose)... I'm not sure why you can't find the guy you're looking for on Redmond - did you walk all over the island, or did you just go to the beach by ship?

I've checked the code briefly, your monk should be right on the shore. I'm not sure if you need to talk to ALL the monks first, or if you have to have ALL of the crosses before you can go return them... It's unclear.

There are monks on every island; perhaps you need to find them all and collect ALL the crosses, and then go to Redmond.

That's something that I found when Build 11 came out and I got a cross from the monk at Oxbay.
I searched all over for where the damned monk at Redmond was and I couldn't find him and so I lost quite a few hours of gameplay and never touched the monks since then.
 
Well it's at least a relief that I am not alone.

I can consistently find the monks on:
1. IM
2. FdF
3. Oxby
4. QC

I have not, to my best recollection, ever seen a monk on:
1. Redmond
2. Douwesan

Lady Cat, I have looked everywhere, on both of these islands, to no avail. Tonight I tried taking one cross at a time and avoiding any time that the monk sent me to either Redmond or Douwesan and I didn't have any problems, but I never made any significant progress.

The monk mentions that he has three relics, but I have only ever been offered the same two, is there a third one.

I was personally surprised to come across an "Excellent" sword, which is apparently one above "Fine", has everyone seen this but me? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ib012.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cry" border="0" alt="ib012.gif" />:
 
I didn't know that there was a possibility of getting the Excellent quality weapons in a stock Build 11 installation. I know that I've changed Toff's quest so that he gives you an Excellent Nicholas Sharp's saber.

Where abouts did you find it?

Just kidding, I found an "excellent" Silver Leaf, I was quite surprised by the graphics and I equipped it over the "fine" Cardinal's Guard that I have grown so fond of, on Rocky Shore on Redmond Island, not to be confused with Devil's Throat, looking for that stoopid monk. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":twisted:" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" />

On Rocky Shore: If you are on the beach and facing the water, you have to go to your left and swim to an outcropping of rock just off of the shoreline. I went back later and it had a random treasure, not a sword, so I figure it's appearance may have had something to do with me being, then, at level 124 and playing at Adventurer level, (this is pure conjecture on my part, remember when I refer to "then" it means the game I couldn't save and lost. Yes, I am very bitter...) and I later found an "excellent" Highlander at another location that I cannot now recall. I am of the opinion that they can be located at any of the random hand things you can find out in the wilds, or on the shore, but I haven't tested this theory yet as I am focusing on finding the missing monks. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":twisted:" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" />

When I looked over the code I could not spot anything that suggested that the monk would NOT exist on Redmond if certain conditions were not met - he is supposed to be at Rocky Shore...

I've not done this in the game - and did not test it during the build betatesting, so I do not know whether this mod was even tested at ALL before it was included... ???

This is a "if you happened to have seen it in the code," question, I know you have a lot going on and like I said, I'm enjoying the sleuthing from the game playing end, and I don't want to put a demand on your valuable time.

Thar prolly be some buggy spots in de monk bidness, Sir Chris, 'cause Fred Bob onct tried tew be deliverin' a relic tew de monk on IM but when me be gittin' thar, de monk acted like no quest had yet been kicked off such dat Fred Bob be out o' luck an' could ne'er save de game! I take it that the monk will only appear in a new game and not a reinit. if you change the file.

I took a look at the monk's dialog and it leads me to believe that handing out relics and receiving them back is about the extent of what they do, famous pirate names notwithstanding, if they give you a relic and tell you to go to Redmond or Douwesan, I say reload and try again. There's also supposed to be a third relic, but it looks like that option has been "" out, whatever that means.

There is some good news, for me that is, I went back to the location where I found the "Excellent" Silver Leaf and it was there again and this time I was able to save the game. This leads me to believe that there are more out there in other locations, maybe I'll be able to find an "Excellent" Cardinal's Guard.

He will appear if ye reinitiate,teleport to the port an teleport again he should be there,I don't think ye need tew start a new game, I tried tew get em tew appear at Devil's Throat an Rocky shore,but there appears tew be a problem wid de locaters,,locations don't show up use'n POTC mod helper fer some reason,so just change two lines for Redmond port.I'm sur de error report has something to do wid MONK_Count -1 line is causing a problem

Following that logic, if we take the "" out then it reenables that third relic, perhaps. (Don't try this at home kids, we're trained professionals... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> )

I'll give that a try just to see what happens. The third relic is supposed to be able to "get you out of a tight spot" whatever that means, it may not work, or do anything, but it will be fun to try.

Do you only change the information in this section to get the Monk to appear?

I have had precious little time to "play" lately... Still trying to get everything in order here since the move. Cleaning... I hate cleaning... I just want to be able to twitch my nose and have it clean...

From what I've seen in the dialog folders, I thinkthat's all they do. Small wonder that two of them got bored and decided not to show up for work. I'll give this a try on my end as well and see what happens.
