Vertical Movement???

Morthon

Powder Monkey
Is there a way to get your ship to move it vertically?? Like...you press "h" and it goes down to a max depth and you press "y" and it goes back to normal surface?? I'm new to modding and a friend of mine is beggin me to add such a "dive" feature. I mean like something as the added left-right strafe ability, but then vertically...

petros did it with characters once. not sure if you can do it with ships though.

hmm, I don't know. I don't really have the knowledge about the limits of the ENGINE to know that, or much of anything else really.

Logically, it makes sense, if that is any help. Although I know it's not.

If you can, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

That's the problem. I just got this game like three days now. And I'm still learning...But if you can add left/right strafe abilities for characters. Then why not up/down "strafe" abilities for ships. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I'm not sure, but maybe ship will not be able to move under the water. But I know - in SLiB (POTC version) was added a submarine (or something like submarine). For use this ship player must have some special things. So - it possible <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

what petros did to the characters was change the x-value into a y-value, or something like that. not sure if it will help though.

Right...but then it could be possible to change the x-value into a z-value...

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->but maybe ship will not be able to move under the water<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> With the left/right strafe ability you can move through walls Davy Jones style

you can move through walls because there's no colission detection. you can do some very interesting things with this. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> one thing i discovered is that when you get the chance to get inside the oxbay lighthouse and go through the wall at the top floor, almost the entire landscape is still there. i think that the only reasons that the lighthouse isn't simply part of the beach is because you can only see the walls from one side, otherwise they're invisible, and it reduces poly-count.

I understand that, It's not useful to render none-seen faces. I know due to my history as a mapper <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

did you know that you can get in some very interesting places in greenford port with the sideslide? i've been inside an enemy galleon's captain's cabin once using that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

The walking around on land mode and the sailing around at sea mode are quite different though. I would be surprised if you could apply the strafe function for land to ships. Would be nice though. I suppose we're thinking Flying Dutchman here?

MAXIMUS! How are you doing? Long time, no see! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

i know i am. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> the thing is, how to make it only possible for the flying dutchman, and not all the ships?

That would be the least of our worries. Just add some code if(player ship = Flying Dutchman) and we're done. The problem is getting the submerge function in there at all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
