<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> why use the old limating engine when we could use the age of pirates engine or we try to find an alternate but free engine...

first post... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

edit:

why not try. with the current engiene ... we could get better quality from a dog... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> no seriously we could <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

why dont we try a new one. im certainly up for it... theres a wide choice of veriaty out there especially much better than this version of storm used.

about 5 years of better technoligy is waiting for us to use!!!

that means we can use more powerful creation tools, better game menus, less loading screens and more... think of it as a revolution to Potc

did you even try reading all the excisting topics on this? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> sorry to dive-bomb it, but for now, it's pretty much impossible and extensively discussed.

AHH!! Smiley invasion!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Updating, or replacing, the engine would take an idiotic amount of time and effort, and there's probably a good possibility it wouldn't even work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i found a brilliant engine called cryengine 2 made by the same people who made crysis. and arrg that engiene will make pirates the best pirates game ever...

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> it would, but you need a realy good computer to play crysis and use that engine and not everybody here has a top end pc <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" /> and all of these mods would be useles if we used another engine

I'll believe that the cryengine 2 is a good engine, but there is no point in moving to that engine.
The reason is simple: NONE of our work would be compatible with that engine, so we would have to start over from scratch.
It'd simply be a waste of resources, especially considering we have only VERY few active coders right now.
The only thing that would be possible would be to move to Storm 2.5 (AoP) or Storm 2.8 (CoAS) at some point.
These are updates of the engine we use right now and, in theory, we should be able to upgrade to those.
However, this would be an incredible amount of work, for which we simply do not have the manpower.
So for the time being, we just stick with what we have and bring that to the highest level we can. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

And upgrading to a newer version of the Storm engine, or a new engine entirely, would likely result in lots of people on here being unable to play it - there are lots of members who don't have the latest and greatest in terms of hardware (me included). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Personally I'm always willing to sacrifice eye candy for better game, pretty happy with PotC with the build mod even though I have AoP

Mods? lol
My friend, that is an understatement, we would have to write an entirely new game from near scratch if we used Cryengine 2. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

True; if we were to move to another engine, we wouldn't just have to port the MODS; we'd have to port the GAME.
This would basically mean recode and redo EVERYTHING.
