more happy news: i found a legal download site for Ahriman's Prophecy, the predecessor of Aveyond. it looks like it's got better graphics than aveyond, strangely enough. going to try it out in a few minutes.

okay, the graphics are definately NOT better. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> it's 16 bit. however, environments do look more natural. there's a significant difference in this game: it's not turned-based. instead, it's got real-time combat. i can see why they changed it though. the menu system is fidgety. you have to be awfully quick with your fingers to manage the combat.

i have a tip for these guys though: if you insist on building upon past storylines and reusing the names, don't keep completely changing the friggin' map! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

this game gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "we're lost in these woods, the trees look exactly alike!". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> cos they DO. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> damn re-used sprites.

anyway, the game is kinda fun. it's better than it's sequel, despite gameplay issues. it's just a little impractical in areas. for example, because of the lack of a combat screen, you can't carefully plan your moves. the health bars aren't very accurate, since they only display health in chunks and without numbers. you don't really have that many clues what to do, and better, what not to do. but you find that out by yourself. it's fun to discover references to the sequels.

it's not that bad, really. it has more lengthyness than the sequels in terms of terrain use. i've been playing for quite a while now and haven't even left the mainland yet. there's still bunches of islands to explore, and i wouldn't be surprised if i could get a ship at some point.

today was funny. i nearly made Greg do a faceplant. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> we where doing a bit of a wrestle, and luckily, he underestimates me. he looked away to talk with someone, and then i yanked as hard as could, making him skip across the hallway on one leg. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Julia made a bit of a disturbing remark in reference to a theatre piece she's making with Ravian. "you should see how good i can chop off heads with a lamp!" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blink:" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> of course, i took that WAY too literally. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> now i've ended up having to smuggle a 4 foot steel sword to school without being detected. this could get.... interesting. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

and my elbow just start creaking every time i move it. strange.

well, this is annoying. opening the music files caused the music volume to go to minimum in the game, and i can't turn it back up. i'll see if i can fix it.

nope, that's gone.

i'm developing plans to bring that darned bastard sword to school. first it tried an art container, but the parrying bar wouldn't fit. now i think i'll carry it in Ravian's guitar suitcase. that should fit. he's got a really cool-looking black flying V by the way, made by Mike, a friend of Justin. i wouldn't really know how to explain carrying a sword. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
