To clarify games:
Age of Sail (AOS)(1996,Talonsoft)
Age of Sail II (AOS -2)(2001, Akella)
Age of Sail II: Privateers Bounty (AOS 2-PB) (2002, Akella)
I was describing Martes's recent fine modeling work on this game to a friend when he remarked that he had tried the game (i.e. AOS-2) found the visuals well done, but with a litany of bugs and terrible AI. ((It does provide a nice marketing study of how to kill your Brand.))
Because of this initial experience he stop play and didn't bother to try AOS 2- PB. Like me and other potential buyers it was considered simply an expansion of the first bugfest game, with some additional gimmicks (balloon, steamships, sub). However, after finally purchasing and playing some years ago I realized that AOS 2- PB is fundamentally a better and a more stable game than AOS 2. It's unfortunate it wasn't labeled AOS 3 to avoid the inevitable. Those who have an interest in a RT tactical age of sail game might reconsider it.
