Technical Issues with Windows 7

Cap'n Trevorrow

Landlubber
Greetings all,

I having a technical issue i have recently installed POTC on my brand new pc, which is running windows 7. I have installed build 14 and the patch the game runs perfectly on land however when at sea the game becomes incredibly sluggish, now I know it can't possibly be the computer because it runs Battlefield Bad Company 2 at full capacity and the computer doesn't even break into a sweat any body have any ideas why this is??? I have tried altering the graphics settings of the game and have also tried various alterations on the compatibility mode. Please help as I have missed this game a lot.

I'm running the game on Windows 7 and it's perfectly smooth for me, so I'm not sure really.

If there is a "memory.mp" in your main game folder, remove it. But then the RunMe.bat should've done that already. :facepalm
(It seems that file exists for the sole purpose of making the game sluggish. UH???)

One recommendation with recent Windows versions: DON'T install the game to the Program Files folder.
The security measures sometimes prevent the modpack from installing correctly.

Rite a random snail file I will look for it and i forgot that on my vista pc i had to install it outside of the program files folder where do u suggest best to install it?

Anywhere that isn't Program Files basically.
I made a folder C:\Games that I put all my games in, which works well for me.

Rite originally i went for a move and it worked better but not as good as it shud, i am currently installing the build and realised that i shouldn't ticked yes to the ENB graphics which probably isnt helping the performance of the game so here goes for a fresh install and a third try, this is keeping me tied over until my fiance comes home from holiday she has bought my AoP2!!! Yipee!!! By the way whats the mod like for that?

Well this is strange uninstalled it all reinstalled in a seperate folder and now it works as far as beginning a new game then crashes and I have no idea, does anybody else?

Where exactly does it ctd? Is it at the same place every time or is it random? I have win7 and had to create an exception in DEP for the engine.exe., but otherwise have done nothing special. Did you run the .bat files in the game folder?

Yes I ran the bat file and while it was running there were a few files that the bat file couldn't find is this normal? It crashes upon loading a new game and the horn blower storyline crashes on the coast of guadelupe. I am totally confused.

I recommend not checking ANY of the additional renderers, but only the main mod files.
If you want ENB, download it seperately from the ModDB.
I made a mistake with the installer and swapped the names for ENB and SwiftShader, so there's a risk you install the wrong one.

As for your crashes, please "Enable Error Logging":
- Open "engine.ini" in your main game folder.
- Find the "debuginfo = 0" line and change it to "debuginfo = 1".
- Find the "runtimelog = 0" line and change it to "runtimelog = 1".
- Find the "tracefilesoff = 1" line and change it to "tracefilesoff = 0".
- Start the game and wait until the error occurs.
- Now find compile.log, system.log and the possible error.log in your main game folder.
- Post their contents here
It should look like this:
Code:
tracefilesoff = 0
[script]
debuginfo = 1
codefiles = 0
runtimelog = 1

Hi
I recently bought this game because I've had it before and really enjoyed it, but then lost the disc.
I installed it on my new laptop with Windows 7, it lets it load but as soon as I click New Game it stops working.
As you can probably tell, I'm sh*t at techicnal computer.. stuff, so could someone explain reaalllly simply anyway to make it work?
Sorry for being so stupid haha. Any help would be really appreciated. :) Thanks.

That shouldn't be the reason then. :modding

Hi,

I've had the same problem as Cap'n Trevorrow, and I have followed everything you have said.
I was going to try to do the error logging seeing as he hadn't done it, and I can't find the engine.ini, file in the game folder. Is just me? Or is it somewhere else?

Thanks

Nope. It should be in your PotC folder right underneath ENGINE.EXE. That is where mine is.

Ok, so I have done the error logging:

I seem to have fixed the problem of not being able to start a new game. All I did is un-install the whole game, then re-install onto an external hard drive. The hornblower quest at Guadalupe still doesn't work for me.

Where is it not working - Shore - Plantation - or somewhere else? & at what point in the quest -- if unsure check walkthrough here http://forum.piratesahoy.net/topic/15628-hornblower-walkthrough-mar-2010/page__view__findpost__p__362858

:mm

I use the world map to sail to Guadalupe, and when it says "Land Ho" I go into the third-person sailing. Once I get there, I see my ship for a second then the game crashes. :modding
