Pointers, There are so many. I don't want to hijack this thread. one pointer that will help is, You don't need Maya to model, you can use what ever program you like as long as it can save in OBJ format, all you really need maya for is to convert to the gm format and to add the placement locators for sails, guns, etc. I personally think Maya is a pain in the ass to model in. I use Lightwave to do all my base modeling and a UV mapper for the textures. no stupid camera setups to worry about.
