Suggestions for next Build.

Commodore John Paul Jones

Commodore in the Continental Navy
Storm Modder
14, December, 1795
HMS Lysander
At sea.

Good evening,
First off, may I introduce myself. I am Richard Bolitho, Commodore of the 4th Squadron of the White, Royal Navy. I am honored to be a part of this most respectable community. I purchased POTC two summers ago and was instantly enthralled. (Not much of a surprise, I’ve been an age of sail fan for the majority of my life.) I have a few suggestions for you modders, skinners, etc. Prehaps this could be the outline for a new version of the Build.

1. New naval skins: I love the ones in B 12, maybe more could b added.
2. Nelson’s navy ship pack: This will be exciting. All ships washed black with yellow ore trim, stripes along the gun ports. The ships to be re-skinned and added to the many ships already present would be: Brig (16, 20, 24), Corvette, Frigate, Line ship, Warship, Battleship, Man-o-War. New ships to be made: Take a 24 gun Brig’s hull, put three masts on it = Sloop-o-War. Also, re-model all the masts with bowsprits and mizzen masts of the late 18th century. (Meaning all mizzen masts would have gaff and boom rig.)
3. Spyglass mod: use the scroll on mouse to zoom in and out. After excessive use, edges of lens appear worn and used.
4. Broadside options: player can choose to: Fire as you bear, On the uproll, etc.
5. New shot option: Double shotted guns!
6. Flags: Take off all but the pennant on main truck. Add an ensign flying from the gaff.
7. Sails: Add new option, can set studding sails.
8. Upgrades on ship: Can buy copper plating for under hull, Different types of wood means different strengths of hull.
9. Joined the Navy: Can ask to join the navy of any nation. Will start as Commander and work your way up. Must serve for a certain amount of time or you will be hunted for desertion. Don’t have to buy ships, hire crew, supplies, rations, etc. The Navy does it for you! Can’t change the ship’s name, It was issued to you. Good way to collect money. If you attack another naval vessel, will be caught and court marshaled. (Thrown into jail afterward. Can use the pick the lock method to escape, must fight your way out.) If you escape, you are named a pirate. Navy ships naturally have better HP, skilled crews and officers, etc.
10. Surgeon: Can hire a surgeon that doesn’t count as an officer. Helps reduce casualties.
11. Under cover: Can steal clothes off killed opponents, so you can sneak about without being recognized. Necessary to escape Oxbay with Tobias.
12. Wardrobe: Can purchase outfits at store. Under personal items. Stored in wardrobe menu.
13. Flags effect paintjob: The paintjob of the Nelson’s Navy ships are effected by the flag you fly. England= Yellow Ore, France= Maroon, Spain= Orange gold, Holland= That gray/ white/ green color, Pirates= Black or brown.
14. New nation: Portugal is now the United States! (This build shoots us to the year 1790.)
15. New soldier skins: All soldier skins are redcoat model with colors adjusted accordingly.
16. Musket: Maybe muskets could be added? (The guards should have them at least, if this doesn’t quite work out.)
17. New HUD: Old looking compass, icon borders, maybe even completely new menu schemes?
18. NPC: Add more NPC characters to the 3rd person view in sailing. Can 10 little figures run a man-o-war? Add enough to have 2 to each gun and still more running ‘bout the decks. If it is a naval ship, you could tell which one is the captain, which are the lieutenants, able seamen, marines, etc.
19. Age of Sail: When setting sails, the little NPCs climb aloft, THEN the sails slowly start to let out. (This Build will make battles VERY interesting!)
20. Rig: Is it possible to add more lines to a model? If so, start slapping on the stays and countless other lines like mad!

These are all the suggestions I can think of at present. If I think of more I’ll add them to this thread. Please feel free to add your own suggestions in the same format as above.

Regards,
John Paul Jones, Commodore
USS Independence (74)
2nd Squadron, International Operations
United States Navy

Do you know about the Post Build 12 mod? Go to Pieter's Pirates Page (link in my signature). Although there are still several bugs in there, there are also a lot of new features, including, for example, muskets. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

one i'd dearly love to see in the game is squadron orders so you can order your ships to form line of battle or try to cut the enemy line. at present it seems to me once battle is joined ships just go any old way they see fit .

oh and if we are updating it with later ships and the such can we get rid of the bourbon flag and change it to the flag of the republic

I thank you kindly, Toddydude. If I had a gaming company, I would have made "Horatio Hornblower: Mr. Midshipman Hornblower" and "Horatio Hornblower: The Hotspur" etc. Each game is based on a book. In first person, this would be a mix of role play, strategy, and simulation.
Actually, a Hornblower mod that re-writes all the characters and dialogs to re-live a book would not be all that bad!

The next build shouldn´t be a build at all!!!

it should be like the modpatcher so you can pick you´r own mods.....

i like that idea to join the navy and stuff
but i want that attacking a fort effects more ,i mean i think yourself must choose the people at who you want to give the colony like if you attack redmond you put france under command of redmond or if you attack greenford you turn it into a pirate town its a good idea dont you think ???? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Just thought of something... could anyone create a new animation so the guns have recoil and fly inboard when fired? That would be cool... And mabey have yards that fall when hit, overturned guns, etc? It would also be cool if you could actually reef the sails, so they are half let loose...
Add sweeps, so you could move while there is little wind, or you have a headwind, this makes you un able to fire guns because the crew is busy... it makes you think, what do you want to do? Out sail them and escape un harmed, or stay stationary and try an' blow 'em out of the water?
It would also be interesting to add rudders... that could be shot away!
"Cut across our stern, took out our rudder... Damn fine gunner..."
-Captain Jack Aubrey

Tying in with the new 'Fire Drill', how about some sort of timer, so that if you don't put fires out quick enough they spread to the powder magazine and BOOM!!!

This would make it more of a gamble as to whether you could afford the time to load your cannon and let off another salvo or break battle and deal with your fires.

Of course this may already happen and it's just that I'm putting my fires out before too much damage is done.

I have seen fire on other ships reaching the powder magazine in the game. I haven't seen it happen on the player's ship though. I didn't even know that mod was in the game, but apparently it is! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

from what i've seen so far the fires reach the powder magazine AFTER i've sunk it,i don't get how the fires could continue after the ship sinks, and i've never seen the fires reach the powder magazine before i sunk it, but then again, i always blow things out of the water when im sailing in a frigate, corvette or battleship.

Hi all,

well, I had some suggestions previously here and now I`d like to add a few new ones and some comments to other peoples proposals.

First, if you play an adventurer role there should be a max cap on your fleet.
I think actually it should be ONE ship... For tough missions, find allies!
Otherwise, if you want a naval career included in this game(I don`t), then of course implementation of squadron orders and linear tactics is a must.

I think that skill enhancing items like chrysoberyl and what not should be discarded. You improve your skill by succesfull missions and fights only.
We don`t need as many sword types. IMO it`s correct to have a few sword types with three main characteristics to make them different: offensive(rapier, broadsword), defensive(small sword), allround(saber). Differences in condition should remain.
We need fewer but more diverse firearms, I would suggest smoothbore and rifled versions of some pistols and long guns. Also introducing repeaters(Kalthoff, Lorenzoni) and revolvers(Isaev). Also, an idea is to introduce precharged powder loads(if the game is running in 1630-s something unified cartridges may be too early, just as waterproof quick ignition flintlocks).
Some smaller ship types should have oars and be able to go straight against the wind. Large ships should not be able to do that unless on tow by lifeboats.
Ships should be upgradeable to some extent as by copper plating, improved sails, bronze cannon(much more reliable but high price and shorter working life).
Gaining rep should be MUCH harder...
And of course more missions and quests. A new mission could be provoking slave revolts and subsequent take over of the colony. An interesting quest could be siding with the natives and restoring them to power or using them to set you up as a ruler somewhere.

Well, that`s all for today, believe it or not...

Regards, Oldtimer

Great ideas. I hope someone knows how to code them in, because I don't. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Hi all,

another idea I have is abt. hiring officers. It seems that as your rep and wealth increases the game offers you more skilled and expensive officers only.
I think that this should be randomised, even if you are the top dog there should be chances to hire lowly inexperienced and cheap officers for further develepment under your stern but fair leadership.

That`s because for me at least developing of my companions is an interesting pastime.

Regards, Oldtimer

another idea i just thought up
why not put a possibility that the captain of a ship in your fleet might be wounded in battle. a message would come up after the battle saying that he is mortally wounded, then you would have to add a replacement officer to become captain if the current one dies?
what do you think?

What I want in the build is Nathiel Hawk in different army officers suit, so Nathiels head at an English officers body. Or Nathiels head on barbossa`s body, that kind of things. And more SPECIAL swords, i mean swords you can`t buy, like the nicolas sharp saber in the stockgame.
