Need Help Stuck with Church protection/Abbey of the Maltese Order (spoilers, of course)

Wolf93

Powder Monkey
Good evening, lads. I've been playing with the latest build for a while now, and finally decided to venture forth, but this is driving me mad.

According to some sources, there should be a body with a rifle in the crypt, others said there should be a diggable spot or another level beyond the crypt (it was an old post, I closed the tab and I don't feel like searching the link :p); I couldn't find any of that. I did kill a lot of cursed Maltese monks, that's for sure, but except for that skeleton that steals all your money (gee, thanks whoever designed that), none seems to "unlock" anything.

So.... any kind soul has any tips?

By the way, in the abbey per se, you get a curious log entry saying you fall into the crypt through a trap, except you don't :D

If you enter the Abbey from the main entrance, you should be able to drop down into the maze.
There is a room with a corpse in there that you can loot.

That was @CouchcaptainCharles. :cheeky
Because the Abbey is quite profitable if you survive, he is there to offset the balance. So to say.
Also, CCC had a twisted sense of humour. ;)

That is very strange!
It definitely worked last time I tried and I can think of no reason why that should have changed. :shock

It seems I have a knack for encountering bugs :p
One could argue than in a parallel universe I have indeed fallen into the crypt, but since I study economics, my knowledge of physics is very basic. Also, those skeletons totally died from natural causes :wp

I'll attach it anyways, but the compile.log doesn't show anything unusual either.

I've never played that sidequest, so can't comment from personal experience. But the walkthrough indicates that you should use the rear entrance to the Maltese Abbey if you want to find the body with the gun.

That's correct, and I've also been using the Port Royale map so I wouldn't get lost, but aside from the Maltese knights, I couldn't find any corpse. It's not game breaking though, just wanted to be sure I wasn't doing anything wrong.

@ANSEL, @Jason or @Jack Rackham, do you remember the exact location?
Well lets see: You go to the Abbey of the Maltese order, there you find the entrance to the crypt.
Wen you fall down in to the crypt: Go straight ahead to the first cross( rum whit fire traps)straight ahead again
Turn to the left and then to the right, right again and there is the right place.
I hope you can follow me, or I have to explain it in a better way.

Just tried again, with several combinations (during battle, after battle, after looting, unequipping armor, etc), but still no luck. I get the log entry but for some reason the level doesn't change

I just edit the post above, I got it wrong first time, sorry!

Hmmm.... Let's see, if I go through the back entrance...

... I end up in the Port Royale dungeon type.

From what you are saying, I guess that'd be the Cozumel one. The only other "door" I could find down there was the one that leads to Speightown.

Wow, thanks a lot for the effort! It actually worked, I guess I was a little confused by the log entry that I didn't try searching the other side of the abbey. That fixes the issue then :D

There needs to be a bit of clarification: Note the first town scene has a small church which is not the one this applies to.

1. The rear door to the Large church (Bridgetown second town scene before getting to jungle) takes you to the lower dungeon of the Abbey of the Maltese Order.
2. The front door (Showing scaffold and posts in front) takes you into the normal church Level of the Abbey of the Maltese Order where you need to kill or avoid the monks.
3. Once in - there are two hidden exits. one next to the first seat on the left (right side) and one on the right wall.
4. The first is a trap door that is supposed to take you down into the dungeon of the Abbey of the Maltese order (different spot to the rear door entry) - I just check and this link is broken and nothing happens when it is activated apart from the script which tells you that you have fallen through a trap door. This needs a bug report if anyone has the time at present.
5. The second takes you into the Crypt. The crypt has the 7 treasure chests that you need a spade to get - take a few as they break often. It has the dead Mr Winchester as well.
6. There are a couple of exits - hidden - from the Crypt - one takes you back the dungeon of the Abbey of the Maltese Order, one to the Speigstown Dungeon lower level.
7, The Speigstown Dungeon has an entry to the Abbey of the Maltese Order directly opposite the stair from the town when you enter it as well.

Hope this helps clarify the situation as I think a lot of people mix up the two - Crypt and Abbey that is.

Edit: The rifle that can be found on Mr Winchester and the book both should be taken. Read the book. See a priest and give him a holy cross when he asks and you will get the telescopic sight for the rifle. This rifle with scope can then be used when you go back into the Crypt to kill the immortal skeletons that you did up sometimes when you are after the treasure chests.

Did we make it so that? Cool! I totally forgot. :woot

"Greenford_M_church" leads to "Greenford_M_crypt" via the trapdoor. Not visible in the video but I have added it.

In the crypt I find the body. It's possible to pick up both the excorcist book and the long rifle.
Both invisible though.

Strange for the gun I think. Weapons use to be at least transparent.
