SoFS Models

We have had no contact with the SoFS modding team on whether or not we can use their models.
Perhaps somebody would care to ask them? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
Anyway, the more ships we add, the huger Build 14 becomes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
Shouldn't be all that hard putting those ships ingame.
Main challenge is getting the ships_init.c code sorted.

I'll post a request to use the SoFS ships in the build mod on thier forums, Pieter. They seem pretty interested in working with us on anything they can, so I don't see why they wouldn't. But I agree, better to have permission before just jumping in with it.

I made some skins for them, and they seem to have permantently "borrowed" my depB skin! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Yeah, as I've been poking about the files doing the translation work, I've noticed a lot of things that look familar in both the code and the files. So I've got a feeling that there is a lot of cross pollination going on between them and us. **grins**

Well, its official. We have permission from BGTeam, the development team of SoFS to use thier models. Following is the short and succinct request and reply I got!

My orignal request:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Sirs/Madams,
I have been asked to request the permission of your team to allow the Build Mod team to use your ship models in the Build Mod to augment the exisiting models there.
Thank you very much,

Cap'n Drow<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Their team leaders reply:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->ok, we allow Build team use our ship models but they must be write that this model from SoFS made BGTeam.
agreed?=)

p.s. sorry for my english)))<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

And my thank you note:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Your english is very understandable. And yes, we will make sure we place credits to BGTeam on each of the models we use.
Thank you very much and I will let our team know.

And for anyone interested in seeing the original thread, follow this <a href="http://forum.bestgamer.ru/showthread.php?p=78320&posted=1#post78320" target="_blank">link</a>.

Enjoy folks, and I'll be looking forward to seeing these models in both Build Mod and anything we do for AoP/City of Abandoned Ships. **grins**

Thanks a lot, Cap'n Drow.
Perhaps you could even suggest that we work together properly.
Maybe even try to merge their mod with ours and make a much better mod altogether?
Though that might be a bit too big of a project. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

I'll do what I can, but can't guarantee how that will be received. From what I've been noticing in the Russian mods, they go for realism and do what they can to get rid of most of the 'ghosty and goblin' stuff. But then I could be wrong about that and just not have messed about with thier stuff enough yet.

I'll post and ask though, and the toughest part if they agree is the simple fact that all thier coders and artists don't speak much english, if any at all.

l'll have a look at thier credits info if you haven't before I blurt that out, if they've done right, they will have included thanks to both Pirates Ahoy!(which I seem to remember seeing mention of us in some of their documentation) and hopefully individuals for any contributions they borrowed from us.

I hate the 'ghosty and goblin' stuff too! and I've always meant to learn russian <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Didn't the Russians also make the Flying Dutchman?
Some of them don't seem to mind the "ghostly and goblin" stuff.
Anyway, I like a bit of realism and fantasy.
I'd like it if Build 14 could cater to both preferences.
The Storylines mod will probably greatly help in that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
