Ships with lighting on the wrong side

Can someone tell me the ship models that have lighting issues? It's my recollection that people have created new ships, but they were unhappy because, especially at night, the light would shine on the side of the ship directly opposite to the light source.

I'm theorizing that this can be fixed in the modeling program because I ran into a similar problem with baldrics on character models; they were on the opposite side of the model. I was able to fix this by duplicating the mesh, mirroring it, and then flipping the normals so the model wouldn't be inside out, then I would delete the original mesh. I'm thinking that this same process would work on the gm's of the ship's hulls, but I don't know which ship models have this problem. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" />

Thanks! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Wow; if you could fix this, that'd be absolutely awesome. You can try your magic on the Black Pearl, which is one of the ships that have it. Not sure what other ships do as well, but at least the HMS Interceptor does, of course. Any ship that was modified in a modeling program and exported through the tool. If it works, could you please type up a tutorial on how to fix it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I've been (co)working on the following ships, and thus they all have lightning bug:
<i>Amsterdam</i>, <i>Black Pearl</i>, Heavy Warship, HMS <i>Interceptor</i>, Indiaman, Superior Warship, and Waller Pinnace.

Thanks Kazeite. So how about it, Sir Christopher? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

FIX IT! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> Good to see that this problem is starting to get a punching care. <img src="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//style_emoticons/default/dev.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Hey Cylon13, I thought you left? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I'm only back for a short time.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Be sure to have a look at the <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=12043" target="_blank">A new look at the Tool</a> thread.

Pieter,

I'll check it out... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/readon.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="readon.gif" /> This is very exciting, but I haven't had any time to work on this. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/328_skull.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":328_skull:" border="0" alt="328_skull.gif" />

I can tell you that my theory doesn't work on character models; there doesn't appear to be any effect as far as lighting goes by duplicating and mirroring the models, but the ship models and character models are different and may respond differently.

My theory grew out of my experiences of trying to import rooms that I had altered where I found that only by not checking reverse normals in TOOL for import could I get the model to appear correctly in game. The model looked completely backwards in the TOOL window, but worked correctly in the game, and alternatively if the model looked right in the TOOL window it was inside-out in the game! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" />

Since both ships and rooms are static models, with no moving parts like character models, I'm thinking they may need the same settings for import. I'll look around for a copy of one of the ship models and try it out, but it may be a while before I'm able to get to it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bird.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yoho" border="0" alt="bird.gif" />

I recall something like that as well, but it only applied to some models and not all. But in any case, the new ships we put in are visible from the right side. But perhaps it's only the normals that are facing the right side and there's some sort of lighting information that is turning the wrong side. I recall Kazeite did mention the Black Pearl was actually mirrored after exporting with the TOOL.

I've also had the problem with ships being turned inside out by TOOL - the first time model was imported from vrml, it would look backwards, as you have said. However, when exported to gm, it would show up normally in GM viewer, game, and TOOL itself as well.
