Ship speed?

Sjarko

Ahoy!I be wonderin' what the fastest ship to begin with is?For me sometimes has a tiny problem boarding those pirates and English ships!

I've found that the schooner does an excellent job of chasing down other ships. I sail on realistic sailing though, it may be different if you use arcade sailing.

that can't be chosen from the menu when starting a new game. i don't know what the fastest is, but it think it's the ketch. when you have enough money, try and get yourself a pirate designed fast schooner. 19.57 knots mate! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> standard! gets a 20% increase with sea wolf! now THAT'S a fast ship! whatever schooner you choose, be sure it is a pirate designed one. pirate designed ships have MUCH less HP, lesser cargo space, but a higher max. cannon caliber, higher maneuvrability, and MUCH higher top speed.

Oops! Sorry, I didn't see that you asked about starting ships. Yes, I think Morgan is right. The Ketch seems to be the fastest.

I'm searching for a fast and agile Warship. Which one would you choose?

It the moment my fleet consists of the Mefisto (questship), the Fast Death (from Falaise de Fleur-quest) and a pirate heavy warship as my flagship. It makes about 14.5 knots. I would like to have a 80 cannon warship with at least 16 knots and 40 turnaround. Is there such ship?

Manowars are impressive but due to 11 knots and 20 turnaround they are useles for active seafight I think.

I believe not.

The 70 + gun ships added to the game I believe all have 12 knot 25 turnaround stats.

So my ship with 74 guns and 14.5 knots/ 29 turnaround is a quite good ship?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'd say so.
The 12 knot 25 turnaround stats are base stats which are then modified by nation, and some random variations.

The fastest variations will be "Pirate design" ships.

Then I'll keep it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

no enemy ship will be going anywhere without its masts! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> remember that! and you could always use sail to of course. or use sail to and run them over. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> which i really like to do.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> I would like to ask something again, the ships level is lower means better right?is that also like this for the turn speed and stuff?that is a lil unclear for me...

yes, lower means better. except the gunboat, that one is or used to be level 0, but that one's an exception. i think it has been changed by now. it has nothing to do with turning rate or speed, but class 1,3 and some of the class 2 ships are rather slow because they are so heavy, and all ships of those classes have low manuevrability. however, the corvette seems to have low manuevrability, but it can nearly spin on the spot! it is also one of the fastest ships in those classes. you can easily get a unique pirate designed 'pirate corvette' in a quest you can get at the falaise de fleur governor. note: the heavier your ship, the better the ramming qualties and the lower the manuevrability and acceleration. you will also notice that they tend to keep turning for a while after you've stopped steering. they also take a long while to stop. more cargo makes them heavier, and affects the aforementioned things and decreases the top speed.

you cannot see the weight of the ship anywhere, but the bigger and higher the ship, the heavier it is. the corvette is fairly light for it's size, so it makes it a pretty good ship.

The Pirate Corvette "Fast Death" from the Falaise de Fleur Quest is imho the best ship in the whole game: You get it very early, it is by far the fastest battleship that can compete with the 1,2,3 ckass warships and it has a very nice turning rate.

With my current flagship, the heavy pirate warship ramming becomse more important just because it is to bulky to steat around enemys. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Once I used the "Sovereighn of the High Seas" to crush an English Brigg....it sunk without one shot. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

How big is the effect of cargo on the ships ablities? Does it make such a huge difference? If that's true I won't fill up my cargo hold anymore..

with a manowar it can make a difference of 4 knots, with a pirate designed fast schooner something like 8 knots. the fast death is indeed the ship i meant.

Glad you like it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Well I just went into the ship init and changed all the values to suit my personal taste and sense of History. The only ships values I left alone were the Pirates .

Also I found that if you wanted to speed the Battles up ...leaving ship speeds alone ..change the battle speed value..beware though things can seem to be running a bit too fast. And some Tubs do not turn well and sail like barns . So you may find yourself running over stuff a whole lot more than you intend ...or if your like me...and play as a Pirate as acurately as possible..... historically...meaning small fast ships ....YOU make be the sinking ship...also I stay out of battle with warships...unless they are Bitty ones and are my type of Fast raiding Vessel.
