We took what we needed, and then a bit more. And more after that.

Currently the Medium Pinnace is only available to Holland. That's going to change. I did a bit of Googling for a picture of a pinnace and found this:
munich_pinnace.jpg

It's a model of a pinnace in a museum in Munich. And it looks remarkably like our Medium Pinnace - it even has the same figurehead! Which means this is going to be the Medium Pinnace for everyone except Holland:

I couldn't find any pictures of the Munich model's stern, so I had to make something up. A couple of sheafs of corn and a barrel indicate that this is a merchant who probably specialises in whisky and ale! :drunk

And now it's the turn of the tier 3 fluyt of war, alias "NL_FleutWar". This is just "Frigate1" from AoP:CT with a new texture. So it would be easy enough to put the original version into PoTC as an international version. Alternatively, let's change the original's red upper hull to blue and make the black line between the gun decks thicker, giving it a colour scheme similar to the "Centurion":
rn_fleutwar1.jpg rn_fleutwar2.jpg
Take a good look at the shrouds. GoF has an improved model with deadeyes supporting them. They're separate parts attached to the hull by "geometry" locators, so it was easy enough to copy the deadeye models and add the "geometry" locators to the PoTC hull model as well as remove the "vant" locators for the shrouds - the deadeyes have their own matching "vant" locators. So that version will be usable by Britain, France and Portugal. Holland keeps its green version.

But what about Spain? GoF has a nice red texture for the ship, which means Spain is getting this:
sp_fleutwar1.jpg sp_fleutwar2.jpg
And the Dutch version gets the deadeye upgrade:

The Merchant Pinnace is available to several nations but has the characteristic Dutch green and red scheme. So here's a new version, based on a colour scheme I found in GoF:
pinnacemerchant2.jpg pinnacemerchant2_side.jpg pinnacemerchant2_stern.jpg
As the original Merchant Pinnace is available to other nations besides Holland, this one will be available to the same nations including Holland. But the new one will have a reduced chance for Holland while the original will have a reduced chance for everyone else.

Why not just make the old one Holland-only; and the new one everyone-else-only?

I suppose technically ships could've had 'wrong' paint schemes in history.
But I thought mostly we made things exclusive... Ish?

Unless the original one doesn't look so excessively Dutch in the first place.

Because at present the Dutch-looking one is assigned to everyone, so I decided to keep that. By comparison, "PinnaceMedium" really was only for Holland, and still is, so Holland is excluded from the new "PinnaceMedium2".

The original "PinnaceMedium" and "PinnaceMerchant" look very similar because their texture files are almost identical.

Anyway, these are civilian ships, not official representatives of the state like warships. Maybe the British captain of an original "PinnaceMerchant" happens to like green, regardless of the fact that the Dutch were using it first. :p

Honestly, your mayonnaise-- er, your mayor-ness, it was sinking when I got there. Yes, sir. And any crewman who might testify otherwise has already been shot. Come again? Oh. In that case, I'd like to start over with my statement, if it pleases your condimentness.

Does kind-of defeat the purpose of long-distance ship-recognition from paint-schemes...

"Condiments"?
Like the 8 Condiments of Pastafarianism? :rofl

Strange. There seems to be an epidemic of sinking ships these days.
"Then where do the stories come from, I wonder...?" ;)

I wasn't aware that was a purpose. Good luck recognising the owning nationality of a "Centurion" class ship of the line from its paint scheme!

The national paint schemes can sometimes help, but not always. And anyway, the blue-topped one isn't nation specific, as everyone else can use it. So if you see a green-topped merchant pinnace, it's probably Dutch, while if you see a blue-topped one, it's probably someone else's - no guarantees either way, look at the flag.

Now for something completely different - not age of sail, nor even a ship. Can you tell the nationality of this aircraft?

Maybe not in real history.
For gameplay especially in Iron Man Mode though, could be worthwhile...

On account of her not having any? :wp

Technically is accurate historically, isn't it?
Not like there were much of any real standards...

If I cared about WWII, I probably would.

I must say, the Heavy Brig, New Horizons model, looks to me very gorgeous, and also, is one of my favourite Tier 5 ships in the game (that Hull HP is as strong as a Heavy Frigate!). And as @Mad Jack Wolfe would say, I'm also a sucker for beautiful evenings.

That's rather excessive! The ship is imported from GoF and so are some of its stats, including HP. Comparing its HP to current NH brigs, brigantines and frigates, the HP is indeed way too high. So enjoy it while you can because it will soon be reduced to something more in line with others of its class...

Current HP is 3500, while a normal Heavy Brig gets 2000, a regular Brigantine gets 1750 and the old-style Brigantine gets 1800. So this Heavy Brig will still be the toughest of the lot, but with 2500 instead of 3500.

You should also check what I posted on my thread of my ship recognition guide, about what other ships need buffs or nerfs:

Armed Schooner: Right now it's not that bad, but I think it needs to increase its agility or its cargo capacity to be more interesting, since it has almost no armament. For example, increasing its HP and cargo from 900 to 1000, and increase its "Arcade" speed from 14.5 to 15.0, and its turn rate from 38.0 to at least 40.0.
English Bark (vanilla model): Its speed needs to be improved in order to perform at least similiar to the European Barque. For example, from 12.7 to 14.0. Besides that, if speed remains the same, I suggest increasing its cargo from 1250 to 1500, and its HP from 1000 to 1250.
Naval Ketch: It's actually not competitive as a military ship. It needs some important buffs in order to perform a similar role to the Naval Cutter, although inferior to it. For example, increasing its HP from 1000 to 1250; its speed from 10.0 to at least 13.5-14.0, and its Max-Min crew from 38-8 to at least 45-9.
Caravela Redonda: It is currently in an inferior position to the other caravels, so it could use some improvement. For example, increasing its speed from 12.0 to 12.5; its turn rate from 30.0 to 34.0-36.0; its cargo capacity from 1350 to 1600-1750; and its Max Crew from 70 to 80.
Pinnace (Dutch): Needs some improvements to be more competitive to the other pinnaces. For example, increasing its HP from 2300 to at least 3000; its cargo capacity from 3000 to at least 4000-4250. Its cargo capacity should be higher than the medium pinnace, as well as its HP. If changes are done to this ship, then Medium Pinnace won't need any change.
Heavy Brig (NH model): It should receive a nerf to its HP, since it’s not normal that a Brig could have more HP than heavy frigates. For example, reducing its HP from 3500 to a maximum of 2500.
East Indiaman: This ship should receive a small buff to its agility, although right now it's not bad. For example, increasing its speed from 11.5 to at least 12.0; and its turn rate from 30.0 to 32.0-33.0.
American Brig (USS Enterprise): It should receive a level increase to the maximum caliber of its guns at a minimum, from 4 to 6. The other alternative is to put it down to tier 6, lowering its crew, and altering some of its stats to balance it in its new tier.
Light East Indiaman: As it is right now, it is more of a military ship rather than a merchant one. It should receive some modifications. For example, reducing its HP, which is a bit excessive in my opinion, from 5000 to a maximum of 2500; reducing its maximum caliber from 18 to at least 12, or 9 to better resemble its "light" status; and also reducing its crew from 200-54 to 160-38.
Treasure Galleon: It should increase its speed from 8.0 to 9.0-10.0 to be at least more competitive.
Besides the GoF Heavy Brig, these are others ships that need important changes. The big ones I think are the English Bark, the Dutch Pinnace, the Light East Indiaman, and perhaps the Treasure Galleon.
