Doesn't @Hylie Pistof do it by only HEX-editing?Copy and rename the texture files, hex-edit the model file to use the new ones, then change the colours of the new ones, and that's it.
Ooh, pretty too!I had a go at it myself, though I like a nice varnished wood finish:
I'd imagine that he'd have to create new texture files as well. Hex-editing the model file merely allows you to change the names of the files which the model uses to texture various parts. You then need to provide texture files with those new names. And because you're changing the filenames at character level, the new ones need to be exactly the same length as the old ones. That's why you'll see files in "RESOURCE\Textures\Ships" with names like "wood.tga.tx", "w2od.tga.tx", "w3od.tga.tx", and if I bring in my version then you're going to see "w4od.tga.tx" as well. (If @Hylie Pistof used "w4od" for his textures then mine are going to become "w5od".)Doesn't @Hylie Pistof do it by only HEX-editing?
Agreed! It may no longer be "the best". But it most certainly is NOT bad! It's just another sunset picture, but I'm always blown away by how gorgeous a game originally from almost 15 years ago can look
You already have the wood texture for the "Neptunus". It is "plank_wood6.tga.tx" and is used for "NL_NeptunusE". "PO_Hull_01.tga.tx" is another good one - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was based on the other, as the wood grain is fairly similar. "plank_gren.tga.tx" is a green version. Photoshop has a "Hue/Saturation" slider, perhaps Paint Shop Pro has something similar, which would let you change the colour of those plank textures to whatever you like.
Those are entirely wrong for the Polacca as they make it look like it is made out of toothpicks. The way it is made makes it "need" larger textures. The one I found is d3ck_br.tga. It is perfect except that it looks too new and unpainted. I might try to darken it a bit later. Right now I'm trying to make a light, bright green and white paint job for the new PO_Neptunus. Think: the first Neptunus screenie but with light green trim.
I think that's @Armada's remake of the original "super frigate" by the great @NathanKell based on the original game frigate. At the moment, my favorit. Who ever made it .... i like it!

We fixed this for a couple of members who could remember their actual join dates, but not for all of them.
