Recruit captured crew

Officerpuppy

Buccaneer
Storm Modder
Pirate Legend
I'm not sure if anyone found this out before or not but it's something I've been wondering for a long time and just found out by accident.

I had a captain held prisoner in my cargo hold which I let free. In my rush to exit the screen I clicked on the talk aloud button by accident, and there was an option that said some slaves wanted to join the crew.

You don't have to be in the cargo hold for it either. I still had some slaves left over and I was in town and I just clicked speak aloud again and I got the option again to recruit some slaves.

Yup, I do it all the time Officerpuppy. You can also do it in your cabin if you are not in battle. :yes Even if your other ships are engaged and you are far enough away you can recruit them and sail back into the fray. Only drawback being that you have just forced (pressed) enemy sailors of another nation into your service, so their morale is very low. Often their experience is lacking as well, so if you have a really good crew, don't enlist too many. I take what I need and then pay to bring the morale up. Its gotten me through a pickle on several occassions, plus I hate selling slaves anyway. ;)

Yep i agree with MK don't take too many on in less your willing to pay a large sum of piasters to bring there moral back up, also you can enlist saves as crew on land, i did this accidently once at the tavern of all places and i wasn't too happy afterwards either as i had replced half thye crew i lost in a battle with slaves who hated me. xD:

hey... as far as i knew you can recluit only a fixed number of slaves, wich is the difference between the sailors you have and your ship's "max crew" (not overloaded)... if i dont understood wrong, you guys are taking about choosing how many of them you can recluit ? :?

You are absolutely correct Superchango. :) If you only have a single ship, you are gonna be forced to either max it out or take what slaves are available for enlistment.

I generally operate with fleets of three or four good sized ships (mostly Dutch Escort ships) and can transfer sailors to my ship to bring the numbers higher so that the number of slaves you recruit is lower based on your maximum sailors cap being closer to what you have on board. Then I mix what I enlisted with the other crews to try to bring the morale and crew experience up a little.

Yup... i kinda handle it the same way... but i wasn't sure of what you guys where talking about

Lol, I always was looking to hire them from the hold of my ship. I never saw any there so I thought it was bugged.

I was looking through the manual today and it also says that you can use the speak out loud feature to capture jungle settlements or towns without forts if you dock on a beach and speak out loud at the city exit.

Yes that is true but what the manual didn't tell you is you need the perk to launch ground assults which is what the option is when out side an enemy cities gates and i think you need 500 or 600+ men to beable to use that feature to attack a city.

and one more thing to lukes point.if ya choose a crossiar as your class you get the
perk to attack cities from land from start.other professions offer diff or no perks from beginning
so it can be important to choose which profession you want depending on what starting perks ya want
and you should be able to mod who get's what perks.just have to figure out where the code is.

If you choose to throw slaves overboard you can choose how many--and thereby decide how many are left to recruit into your crew.

What is the ground assault perk? Is it an ability like allied troop landing, or is it hidden?

I am playing as an adventurer. Will the perk become active if I complete the gov-generals missions and can capture settlements?

Arrr, does anyone know the answer to the above question? I have a 60+ hour game going as a Dutch Adventurer, my goal in the game being to capture all the settlements on the map for myself. I am finally maxing out my stats, but I am hesitant to proceed because I want to make sure that my goal can be accomplished.

What is needed for a class other than Corsair to be able to take jungle settlements like Fort Orange etc? I'll start a new game in the mean time, but I would hate to lose all my progress in the last game because of some stupid sentence that was left out of the manual.

I have read that only Corsair can take jungle settlements, but cannot confirm. Sry

Edit - also read that its pretty hard to hold settlements once you take them (constant assault by the prior owner). Not sure if you planeed to hold all those cities you take or not.

I started a new game as a Dutch Corsair. lol, found out that I was playing on the easiest difficulty so I deleted my first profile. In my new game I increased my difficulty, and lowered my rate of experience increase. Now I should have a more challenging and rewarding game.

My goal in the game is to capture and hold all settlements if possible. If not, my goal is to have fun and to provide feedback that can be useful to modders and future players.

OMG!!! Corsair difficulty is very hard!!! I usually attack the skeletons in caves right away to max out my personal abilities. The amount of dying and reloading you do at this difficulty is not worth it. If my character is shot he dies. If he gets stabbed/thrusted or a crushing strike he dies. Not fun at all. I was looking forward to more challenging naval engagements at this difficulty, but the impossible sword fights are not worth it.

I will still go for my goal, but I need to find a better balance with the difficulty and rate of experience increase slider. Maybe I will start a new thread and ask what difficulty other people use.

Well you have to learn to block and parry, that's the most basic thing allowing you to defeat one opponent. For multiple opponents, you need to learn to take advantage of your surroundings, ie. lure them to a door so that you can take them on one by one.

Personally, I use the middle setting (Captain, IIRC).
