Question about De Poincy's offer of becoming a French naval commander

Regarding the "A Burden of the Gascon" quest - Should I accept his offer ? I really don't want end up being his errand boy , so far I know I'll get the Light Frigate Gryffondor which doesn't seem worth it to be honest , It only has 34 guns and is slower and can ferry less cargo than my current ship - an East-Indian with the Black hull and red lining (pretty great looking ship , I've also bought black sails for it , I've grown quite fond of it) I'm not a fan of the uniform De Poincy gives you either .

Will I miss out on something later on if I refuse his offer ? If I say "no" does that end the quest ?

I accepted his offer because he will never ask something else from you again. Everything is just a present and nothing more. You can change back the uniform right after to your favourite armor. You receive a maximum skilled crew that you can also use with your favourite ship. You can sell the Griffondor when ever you want. I for example was sinking it in exchange for the light frigate Fortune right after boarding the Fortune in the quest Seeking for the Guardian of Truth, which is the best ship of the whole game in my opinion. You can use the captain from the Griffondor for any other of your ships or leave him with one of your ships at a harbourmaster whenever you want. You will have an excellent reputation with france without any engagements. So i would recommend it because it´s a win-win situation. In this game (in opposite to AoP2CoAS) you can´t work (except the Dutch Gambit) or be a naval commander for any other nation anyway.

I forgot to tell you that it doesn´t make any difference for the further course of the quest if you say yes or no to his offer. The quest continues in the same way. You have to defend Saint Pierre next and that ends the quest and the relationship with De Poincy anyway.

I see , Thanks , I'll probably tell him to piss off then . Saint Pierre battle's going to be a bit though with only 1 East-Indian but I'll manage .

I recommend to board the Man `O´ War because it has the talisman "Ghoul" in the captain´s cabin in a little chest on the table.

If I accept the French patent is there a French quest line afterwards ? Or is it just a piece of paper with no future benefits ?

Nothing else than what i told you about already. The game continues in the same way, with or without the patent. But why don´t you just try it out yourself? You only have to keep an earlier save and can always reload if you don´t like something.

Thanks for all the info , I just wanted to have all the information before hand , the fight for Martinique is pretty tough , in my case especially , I really don't want to go through it more than necessary .
