Problems with the crew

Having a LOT of problems assigning a crew. I just started the game, but finally figured out how to save games (required the directory settings to be fixed, using Vista 64x).

I go into the tavern, hire some crew members. They show up (the correct number) when I press F2. However, I cannot assign ANY of them to officers. There are no names, etc., just blanks.

What am I doing wrong??

You need to hire officers separately, you can find them sitting around in taverns.

DOH!!! lol

And the officers are who fills the positions of Navigator, etc., correct??
