Problems with German POTC + POTC Build 13

Hi,

as I heard from your mod, I searched my german POTC CD's and installed it again. I downloaded the mod from filefront (needed a few hours by the way) and installed it. But I have some serious problems with the game/mod. First the controls are really bad. (I know they were bad in the orginal game too) I can't block with my weapon or change the attack type. There are no entries in the controls options too! In addition there are missing animations like when I go one step to the right or left. Theres also no Intro movie or something like that. I think that I made something wrong because that can't be, that you are playing the mod like this!

Can you just tell me what I have to do (download/install etc) to enjoy your mod as it is intended to be? I would be very grateful!

Maybe I download the installer again, but first I need a faster source^^

Hi Prof. Trottelhirn, and welcome to the site! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

You downloaded the mod from FileFront? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> I was not aware of a mirror there, but that doesn't say much. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Anyway, I would recommend running <b>RunMe.bat</b> to delocalize your German version of the game. RunMe.bat can be found in the main folder of the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> If that doesn't work, I have no idea what your problem might be - but again, that doesn't say much as I am only one of those who crawl the modding forums and cheer wildly at everything. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

<b>Edit:</b> Sidestepping without animations - that is not a bug, I'm afraid we can't edit animations (yet, I hope).

The RunMe.bat was startet right after the installation of Build 13. I would try to download it again. Were did you get the file?

But is it right, that sidestepping ignores the collision-meshs so you can walk through walls? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

<a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/" target="_blank">Pieter's site</a> is the place we download from - check if the sizes match, no point in downloading it a second time. Do you also have Update 2?

I'm afraid so. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> On the other hand, it can be quite useful when you're low on health and need to recover or pop a potion. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

By the way, Brickfield looks nice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> What modeling programs do you work with?

K, my file is 377mb. I downloaded it from filefront where it was added on the 20th of November. I think it is the newest file, but I will download it again from Pieters site to go sure. The update pack 2 isn't contained in the full install, right? Then I will download this update, too.

Maybe you can just tell me how I have to proceed. Is the following order ok?
-I install the german POTC game
-I don't have to install any patches for the game, because there are none^^
-I install the POTC Build 13 Full
-I run RunMe.bat
-I install POTC Build 13 Update 2
-I start the game

And why you don't use the standart animation instead? Do I have to deactivate the "Animations" in the options for that?

Wow, I can't believe that someone link me with brickfield even in a pirate community^^ Is my name already so famous^^
But to answer you question: We are using 3dsmax 8 for all the modelling works and the UVW mapping. We use it for some animations, too. Its such a multifunctional program^^

I think the movement through walls is an advantage. I prefer to move through walls to rescue me or get into the battle, than be blocked by my own officers and can't halp them . In the original game you have to look at your officers death without any chance to help them since they prevented you from attacking their enemy. This was very frustrating. Now its better.

I play a German version to and everthing works fine. I can set the controls to my liking ..completely free. My game misses only a loading screen. I can live with that.<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

But maybe there ia a trick to activate them?

Maybe you can tell me how you proceed with your installation, since we both have the same POTC version...

PS: I have no loadingscreens, too^^

I do not have the german version, but your installation sequence
looks spot on!! The only thing I would add is to play the Stockgame to make sure
it runs ok before proceeding with the rest of the Install! Viel Glueck!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Thats the procedure. I installed the game in the given path since the build 13 auto localizer won't find the files if you change the install directory. Then I extracted the update2 files directly in the POTC folder and overwrote all files. The game works fine and all controls are selectable.

I can't give another hint. Thats just the way it works for me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

K, now I see all controls, too!

But you can't change the language in the options or some text files will not be available. But thats no problem for me I think^^

I have some more questions:

- Is there no more intro before I come to the first dialog?
(I only have a small vid after I choose to sail out even if theres a storm)

- Is there really no chance to stop these ugly sidesliding into walls? Why can't you take the code from the orginal game? Was there no sidestep?

<!--quoteo(post=176782:date=Dec 23 2006, 12:48 PM:name=Prof. Trottelhirn)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Prof. Trottelhirn @ Dec 23 2006, 12:48 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->

No, there wasn't. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Also, about intros - don't move your mouse when you are in the main menu, and a little vid should come up to get you in the mood... Otherwise, there is no intro.

Brickfield: I somehow felt that the name Prof. Trottelhirn was interesting, so I did a search <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" /> First thing was ModDB. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Update 2 is indeed not included in the Build 13 download. Eventually I'll try to make a new installer, but don't count on that very soon.

That is the correct order for normal PotC versions, but it has been found that the German version of the game somehow doesn't work properly with that installation order. Try installing Build 12.1 first and then install Build 13 on top. I reckon that should work better. This should solve the missing loading screens and sounds.

Also: If you have trouble with the keyboard controls, please go into the options menu and reset the controls to default.

Ok, I will install the game a third time then^^

This time I will do it in this order:
-I install the german POTC game
-I don't have to install any patches for the game, because there are none^^
-I install the POTC Build 12.1
-I run RunMe.bat
-I install the POTC Build 13 Full
-I run RunMe.bat
-I install POTC Build 13 Update 2
-I run RunMe.bat
-I start the game

I hope that this time it will work! I just played some time, but the game was very confusing to me^^ I stranded on the island, walked a bit, then some people attacked me, I ran into the city which was attacked by some bandits. The city towers shooted with canons and the bandits went on fire^^
In the city there was only a few people and a military base, were I wasn't allowed to go^^

I think I need some tips which is the best way to start the game ^^

I reckon it should work much better like this. Let us know how it works.

When starting the game, DON'T use the "Never mind all that -- the lookout sighted a French squadron headed this way! We must leave port now, before we get caught up in the attack, raging storm or not!" dialog option. That option is the Stormy Start option where you will end up on a random island with hardly anything at all. If you just start playing the mod, it is recommended you just play the tutorial first just like in the original game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i've been always wondering about this: can you sideslide into someone else? i did once see a bandit and a soldier fighting each other while inside each other. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> looked pretty wierd. it went really nuts when they accidentaly hit other people who joined in as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> oh: the most usefull purpose of side-sliding is probably going through a wall in a maze. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> wierd. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> i also played jesus once. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I thought of that, but I like the challenge^^ I don't like the idea of starting with something I did't earned myself. (like a ship or a crew)^^

I done the install again and installed the mod in the described order. The loadingscreens are there now and if I speak to someboy he says something now. These sounds were missing the last time, too.
But know I have a problem with the menu. If I press F2 the menu opens, but if I click on "inventory" nothing happens! The same applies to the other parts of the menu like "ship" etc.

No, if you try you will see that you actually nudge them.
If you continue back and forth, slamming into them, you can move them.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->i did once see a bandit and a soldier fighting each other while inside each other. ...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Those characters were spawned on the same locator spot.
That happens when code calls for more characters than locators for a given location at the same time.

i know why it happened, it just looked really wierd. same goes for a soldier and a woman standing inside each other. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> i also once saw some three headed beast without legs walking the deck of my war tartane. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> it (or more precise: they <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> ) was walking half inside the deck because of the incorrect walkfiles for the AOP ships. oh my god, IT'S ALIVE! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Maybe we can talk about my problem again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

If I press "F2" and I want to change to another submenu like "Ship" or "Inventory", nothing happens except a yellow blinking button... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Did someone else also had this problem yet? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

PS: I love these piratesmilys^^

I haven't encountered it yet. Have you tried setting the interface theme to the other one in options? So far nobody has reported this I think, so its worth trying. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

On another note: Don't be disheartened by the failiures, it usually works for people first time. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
