Problems starting the game

Resolve the problem but with sound ON

Hello,

My problem was the same as described before ( Run the game, see the first two intro then return to Windows ).
I've tried the `3D-Analyzer` with the box "Emulate HW TnL Caps", the game runs for a short time before crash and some textures are missing. So I've abandonned this solution.
I've tried with soundcard disabled and it's running fine. But It's too bad without sounds...
Then I've run DXDIAG and disabled Hardware acceleration in the sound tab.
You now what, It's working great. :) Until the release of a patch that fix it I hope...

Same problems here, Updated all of my video and soundcard drivers and still could'nt get the game to work. Same grey screen with a spinning wheel.

Disabled my soundcard, and hey presto the game worked first time.

Does anyone know if a patch is being written to sort out this fault?

Can't wait to play the game with sound. I loved the original game all those years ago,

Anyone else have any ideas on what to do next or have sorted out the same problems.

Let me know, contact me at kitchm@aol.com <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Yep,

Have you really read before posting ? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
If you can't wait a patch to play with sound, try DXDiag as I've said just before your post.
It worked fine with my computer. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
I hope it will work with your computer <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I've got a (Realtek) AC97 soundcard and had the same problem with the game not starting. Installing the most recent driver however did the trick and now it works like a charm.

I have a similar problem to the one described in the original post, but I can sometimes get beyond the Pirates logo screen. However, then I am unable to see the text for the menu options - I can just see the buttons and have to use trial & error to get the game to start. After that, the opening video plays fine but then there are all kinds of severe rendering problems once the game starts. It is basically unplayable.

I have an Alienware laptop with a Radeon 9600 128Mb card w/ latest drivers. I'm visiting my folks over the holidays and unable to use that machine to connect to the Net to download the fixes mentioned above until I return home, but I'm going to try disabling the sound card and playing around with the hardware acceleration toggle.
