Problem Retexturing Weapons

Captain Brandon

Landlubber
I've been trying some retexturing but I ran into a problem with weapons. The retextured weapons look fine in gm_view but in the game they look like they are made of some highley reflective material. The textures I made can't be seen.

Anyway, my question is, how do I properly save weapon textures?

I use txconverter to convert the textures to tga, I used IrfanView to save the edited tga, and txconverter to change the tga back (with the same compression and color settings as the originals).

Do I need to use a different program to edit and save the tga files? Is it a problem with txconverter?

Here is a picture of the weapons ingame and on the right is how they look in gm_view.

Any help would be appreciated.

I get this too sometimes... I mean, sometimes they show up shiny in-game and someones they are fine, and I can't even know what I do differently. Maybe it has to do with indoor/outdoor environments? Or some factor in the model of the weapon, some obscure file. It's been too long since I've done this.

I figured out part of the problem. Irfanview didn't recognize or offer to save the alpha channel. I used Microsoft Image Composer instead and it seems to have worked.

There seems to be a lot more to it than that, though. Some weapons only have partial reflection (i.e. only on the edge of the blade) so the texture file itself seems to indicate how and where a weapon is shiney. Not too sure how it works though. The non reflective surfaces are completely invisible in MS Image Composer, so I don't know how to properly edit them.

I have this problem too but the problem is this texture "EnvAmmo" , I think rename it and that work.

Thanks for the info. I edited the gm so it doesn't use that file and my texture appeared perfectly. There's no reflection at all now, but I guess that's ok.

Hopefully I'll eventually be able to figure out how to make partially reflected textures (like the ones that come with the game), but this is good enough for now.

By the way, I haven't tried this yet, but I think removing or renaming the EnvAmmo file would remove reflection from all the weapons.

I think it has something to do with shaders - look at the sha files in the Modules/effects folder.
