PoTC: On Stranger Tides

With regard to this movie, yesterday I went to the Tallship festival at Chicago's Navy Pier. I was talking to one of the Bounty crew members (while touring through the Bounty). She has a friend that works for the San Diego Maritime Museum. Her friend told the the Rose/Surprise just came back from 3 or so days filming for this movie.

Not sure how to post pictures to the group but I did get several good ones form the visit if anyone is interested.

Link to festival website has links to all the ships in attendance.

Enjoy,
Greg.

The HMS Rose is involved in the PotC movie? Maybe THAT's why she was suddenly gone from San Diego a couple of months ago.
Too bad, I had wanted to visit her that day. :facepalm

Yeah, she's going to play HMS Providence.

As far as I can tell, the only thing that's changed is the name plate on the stern.

McAfee SiteAdvisor claims that to be an unsafe site that tries to use a security issue in the browser or something.

Cruz doesn't seem happy to be standing right opposite Jack Sparrow?

Barbossa got a whole new outfit; not convinced it looks good on him.

Flying Dutchman shape + Black Pearl blackness = Queen Anne's Revenge?

I think on the Pirates Wiki it says that they used the ship that was the Pearl from the second or third movie and made it into Blackbeard's ship. It actually might make making the ship for our games easier considering we just reuse the Pearl model and give it a new skin.

As for Barbossa....I wonder what he got himself into! Also, Cruz is or was pregnant when the picture was taken.

There's some possible movie spoilers in the PotC LEGO set descriptions I posted here:

Also:
The Queen Anne's Revenge is portrayed by the Sunset, which previously portrayed the Black Pearl in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. In 2010, the Sunset was redesigned to portray the Queen Anne's Revenge in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Wherever did the above come from? I thought the Black Pearl in CotBP was built on a barge or something and for DMC and AWE,
she was built anew as a full ship. If the former Black Pearl is now the Queen Anne's Revenge, whatever happened to the actual Black Pearl???
Edit: Hum. I always did think the blackness, both hull and sails, of the Queen Anne's Revenge looked quite Black Pearl-ish.

CHROME skull? Looks weird. Doesn't seem to say much about the film's setting this time around.
DMC had the jungle stuff to suggest Pelegostos and Tia Dalma and the AWE looked somewhat Asian.
Not sure what to make of a chrome skull. Continuity-wise, they did lose Jack's piece of eight on there.

Did anyone see this photo of the Queen Anne's Revenge yet?

Personally, I'm still not convinced. And what's with that big hanging lantern at her stern?
Imagine that swinging back and forth in a storm. NOT practical! :shock

There's also these two behind-the-scenes videos. WARNING! SPOILERS!

Not a lantern: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibbet

Anyway, that ship looks completely ridiculous. But then this is POTC, next to the Pearl and the Dutchman she's downright mundane.
Also, vis a vis the poster, I do hope that's not supposed to be a crystal skull.

Ah; so THAT's what it is. Still mighty inconvenient in a storm though!

I do wonder where the need comes from to make the ships look ridiculous.
The navy ships were all quite fine-looking, including the Interceptor, Dauntless and Endeavour.
The Black Pearl seemed fairly normal to me as well, but the Flying Dutchman obviously not.
This one seems to combine the Black Pearl's colour with the Flying Dutchman's ridiculousness for a non-cursed ship. :facepalm

Storm or not, why would anyone want to have rotting corpses hanging right outside their bedroom window? I mean, yuck. I guess Blackbeard isn't exactly the sanitary type.

The Pearl seemed normal except for the sails. I mean, the fastest ship in the Caribbean with sails made out of nothing but holes? But it was okay because it was a cursed ship crewed with skeleton pirates, so whatever. Magic did it. And when the curse was lifted, she got fitted with normal sails again. Same with the Dutchman, the seaweed sails went nicely with the fish people. But the Revenge is supposed to be an ordinary ship, isn't she? I understand the idea is to give Blackbeard a distinctive, instantly recognizable ship, but at least a pretense of plausibility would've been nice.

New video; WARNING for SPOILERS, of course!
