Playing Build 14 Alpha 6 + Update 2

Well I have started to get back into the game and I remember now some of the frusrtation I was having last fall. I know most people are working on Build Alpha 14 8, but remember in earlier phase having to play back through versions to identify when errors got introduced, I wonder if there will be any value to me listing errors and or problems I am finding in Alpha 6. I can stop anytime if this is not relevant but here is my first list focussed on game play.

1. Fast Travel does not work on Port a Prite.

2. You can't trade cargo with the merchant on Port a Prite. There is no dialogue for that when you talk with him.

3. You get the Oxbay movie everytime you die and go to tavern to recove only on PaP, so far. I think this is because the woman meet is not named in the code. When you hit escape the message you get is "you can't save here until error leaves."

4. The most problematic issue is that farily frequently you get stuck on one of the decks in boarding. If you board a lot this amounts to a game killer. Did this get fixed in a later version?

5. The Oxbay movie also appears at other points in game for no apparent reason.

On another topic, is there a place I read a summary of Maximus and KK's versions of the alpha 8 to get some idea of what to expect when I start testing those?

There's no real proper documentation on the Maximus and Pirate_KK versions. There's a bunch of new stuff in there. Maximus' version contains, for example, the Curse of the Black Pearl film quest and Pirate_KK's contains the Capture Town mod, the Selectable Storylines mod and the (unfinished) Periods mod.

Maximus' version still does contain a stuck-on-boarding bug, but I think Pirate_KK's might not have that. The random Oxbay invasion movie I also observed. Another issue: The fire drill doesn't seem to be working. The fire starts, I push "c" which I think is the right key, I get a dialouge and then, I get a sound file "Aye. laddie. You've got me ear" adn the fire rages on. Also the doesn't seem to be hurting anyone or doing any damage.
 
Do you have the Basic Ship Defence ability? What you describe is what's supposed to happen when you DON'T have that ability. It should work when you do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
 
To execute fire drill you must have Basic Defense ability.

On the firedrill, I don't have basic ship defense ability, but when I was in the middle of a storm the firedrill came on and continues to work.

I have now played this version for several hours and it seems to be relativley stable from a game play point of view. Some, but not a lot of CTDs, getting stuck in boarding sometimes but not a lot. It seems you can defeat that if you go back to a previous save and pass the encounter. I think congratulations are in order on this version.

After several days of realtime playing I have encounterd a runtime error off Dowessen after recoveing the idols. I have played up to it twice and gotten it on both sides of the island. Anyone have any ideas?

I found it, but I can't seem to make it work. Does anyone have any ideas about how to defeat the runtime error?
 
Not without any kind of clue as to why it happens. What do you mean "you can't seem to make it work"? I maybe blind, but I can't find this setting in engine.ini "tracefiles = 1".

I don't have that line either but with tracefilesoff = 0 it should generate system.log, error.log and compile.log anyway.

I got the runtime error again and got what I think are three logs: error, compile, and system. Should post them here or PM them to someone or something else? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
 
Hi Jason,

Found your topic, finally. Pieter is running a bugtracker <a href="http://swankyplace.com/potcbugs/main_page.php" target="_blank">here</a>, where we used to post bugs for a base version. The purpose was to slowly but thoroughly go through all versions and find every single bug, for immediate or later correction. The problem - as I see it - is, that a fixed bug can open up for more related bugs.

So, in reality, you often find yourself walking in darkness as I dont think we have any bugfixers at the moment. With bugfixers I mean programmers who have the time to go through your reported issue and fix the code.
 
Not to mention we haven't used the Bug Tracker for a while either. We really do have a serious lack of coders. Right now I think Pirate_KK is the only active programmer. I don't know how Maximus has been doing lately. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Did <a href="http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=496759" target="_blank">something</a> about <a href="http://www.moddb.com/forum/thread/programmer-wanted" target="_blank">that</a>. Basically, all I can do. Being sceptical of nature, however, I dont think it will send people our way. Then again, trying is not dying <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
