player owned island/house

djinn

Landlubber
I have seen a few post that say they want a player owned / created island that has a house or the ability to own your own colony or town. I was wondering if anyone is currently working on this project or if anyone has worked on a project like this?

uh... yeah. funny that you didn't find it. in build 14, these features have been installed quite a while ago. i wouldn't recommend using build 14 yet though. build 14 alpha 6 update 2 is the most playable, but it's dodgy.

You’re talking about the ability to take over colonies right? I didn't see that, but I was thinking about doing something else. I was wondering if any one has made a home base type of thing like a pirate cover/lair that a player owns. I like to use different ships for different thing I like using sloops for pirating, gallons for smuggling, and battleships for raiding forts. However I hate selling a nice ship. So, I started thinking of an island that you could do a quest for and own eventually. I wanted to be able to store ships, cargo, and have a house on the island among other things. So this is my plan and I would love to hear any impute on it.

I wanted to use one of the small islands like the one off the cost of Isla Muelle that's not used. The island would start out with a small dock and a entrance to the jungle. Inside there would be an old pirate’s house . You would then go in to the house and talk to an old pirate that would send you on a quest of moderate length. After you complete the quest he would give you the island and a plan that he has for its development. The plan would be a be stored in you bed room and would be accessed like a merchant. You would then be able to buy upgrades for the island. The upgrade would be bought with wood/planks, brick, and money. The build time would be dependent on you current crew. The upgrades would be :

A ship yard that will store your ships
This will basically be a shipwright that sells and buys ships for 0 gold and that never updates
The ship yard would not sell any ships but could repair them and possible add cannons to them
I was thinking about having cannons kinda being sold/traded as a good because cannons used to be worth the most on ships and were always taken off of ships and reused so I don't see why they aren't traded as good in this game
I was thinking they could be added to you cargo hold if they were not installed on your ship, and either sold at a shipwright or stored in your warehouse for later use. The ship yard would take planks, sailcloth, and cannons from the warehouse when repairing ships.

A tavern that works a little different then a normal tavern
You can't stay the night, hire crew, hire officers , escort merchants, or hear rumors
but I wanted to use/modify the acres owned feature in the game. It would keep track of what island gave you the land and you would get that island exports delivered to you warehouse on the first of every month
after you gained acres and had a warehouse you would have the ability to hire crew/officers and would here rumors. Since new people would be coming to the island. Also after you bought the tavern you would get two merchants in you town

A warehouse that can store goods and except deliveries
Works like a store that buys and sells stuff for 0 gold and never updates
You could use this to store left over pirating cargo until you’re ready to go sell it or smuggle it
It would receive good form you acres owned on other islands
It would store resources used by the shipyard and plan
I might make the tavern require ale, wine, and rum also so that would be stored there as well

You would be able to up grade your house to a larger house your starter house and up graded house would both have a bed that could be slept in and boxes for storing good

You could add a black smith

Upgrade your port to a larger port with merchants

You could add a statue of the old pirate to the center of town (I might need some one to do the meshing and texture for this) so it might not go into the upgrades

I know this is going to be kind of a large project but I am hoping it wouldn't be that bad because it would just be modifying existing code and I wouldn't have to make any new textures or meshing

well thank anyone that read this really long post i would love any impute on this or any help as well.

You can berth up to four ships for each port except Khael Roa; this mod works properly at least for stock islands (for all the rest it must be corrected though). For a varied fee you can store your ships there and re-launch them as you need.

In ship interface click on a ship and press 'Berh a ship' button. Then select a harbour on island you're on and berth type (anchoring will be more expensive and you'll need to leave one officer, laying up will be cheaper but upon taking her you'll need to fix a ship).

Sounds like a heck of a project, Djinn. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

How about enabling the possibility of enemy ships attacking your port like in Age of Pirates? Just with less frequency, like a big fleet once or twice per game year.

And for the tavern, have captains from friendly nations be willing to hire out their ships and crew to you. They could be willing to fight alongside you no matter what, and their actions could influence relations in the game world. If the captain and his crew are lost in battle, his home nation could become unfriendly towards you. If they survive, they get a hefty cut of the profits.

Just some ideas, but they'd probably be too hard, if not impossible, to implement. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

But I must finish other things for this mod first.

I won't code this in a reasonable future since I have to make fixes to existing mods.

That certainly sounds very intriguing, Djinn!
And not really out of the possible either!
In Build 14 Alpha 8 there is a feature to take towns for your own.
Perhaps you can cooperate with pirate_KK and combine the Capture Colonies mod with your ideas?
After all, the Capture Colonies mod requires a "management of your own town(s)"
aspect that I don't think has been made yet.
Additionally it would indeed be nice to start your own town somewhere without having to resort to hostilities.
