i've done some research, and as it turns out, the clippers actually already are in-game! as it turns out, the corvettes are very similar to the first clippers. the only main difference is that they have a poop-deck and have a differently shaped stern. the original ones would have a stern of which the center would be folded inward, like a fish-tail. (although i don't fully understand how this would look. maybe it was only the area around the rudder) early clippers had a really round bow, and the widest part of the ship would be halfway between mid-ships and the bow, just like the corvette. note: they where not called clippers yet. they where called clippers from the point where the new bow was designed, called a 'clipper'. however, these ancestors of the clippers where active up to the mid-18th century, which is before the napoleonic wars. then, the new bow and hull shape where designed. the two main changes where the bow and the widest part of the ship, which was moved to mid-ships. there was quite a bit of difficulty with making the new clippers, as the other companies tried to sabotage the build all the way through and where very distrustfull about the design, making it very hard to find someone to finance the project. in the end, the build took three times longer than was anticipated. the first 'real' clippers appeared in the carribean, but i think it might be north america as well. it was only until later that they started to make crossings to europe and asia. due to these new clippers, the americans quickly became the biggest merchants in the world, although england was still in the lead. the main motivation of building these clippers was of course speed, but at first, it was mainly used to escape the enemy, in which they where very succesfull. in those days, every nation stole from the others, but the clippers where to fast to catch, so they made very profitable voyages indeed. clippers where sometimes equipped with deck-cannons, but nothing more. the best clippers where designed by mackay, of which the masts and yards where often made of exceptionally thick steel instead of the light wood, and they where designed to sail under full-sail in a squall instead of striking sail, as the improved rigging was designed to take the pressure. above the regular sails, the later clippers had royal's, and sometimes skysails. very few clippers, (5 or 6) had even moonsails above the skysails. these three new sails barely did anything, but they where just that little bit extra canvas. note: the crew often just put them up because they looked good, not because of their usefullness. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
