Of course this is always a matter of everyones taste but i personally don´t care sooooo much about 100% historical correctnes as long as the game is moving mostly near it and makes a lot of fun to play. Also CoAS isn´t a game made by Akella as we all know, it´s a mod from Seaward.ru. But for me personally it´s the best pirate game of all, made till now. It´s a kind of magic... :wp

Yes I agree, CoAS is the best open ended pirate game ever made.

I admit your correction that CoAS was the development of Seward.ru and modders like those here at Pirates Ahoy!, but it built upon lore of the series which started all the way back to Sea Dogs with characters like Governors Moodyford and Stuyvesant.
In some ways there are one in the same. because there are crossovers of team members that were hired after AOP:CT.
Either way, Akella knows the series backwards and forwards.

I don't have a problem with Akella adding to the "magic" of the series (including literally here) or changing real historical events in POTEHO, but when they use direct characters that were in CoAS the game flow logic has to make sense.
For the most part they actually did, but a couple of times you will scratch your head and go HUH? WTF?

They also could have really taken the ships and sailing model to a whole new level, but they didn't, mostly out of budget I suppose.
But, conversely weapons, characters, locations, and interfaces did get a major facelift, and even the music is high quality and fits the theme perfectly, so I guess its a tradeoff.

Regarding ship models, I am not talking quality over quantity.
For example in POTEHO there are only 40 base ship models (including quest ships) as compared to the baseline ships in GOF 2.0 which is over 170+.
If you modify everything that was in Sea Dogs, POTC, AoP:CT, Combined Mod, GOF, GOF Eras, and POETHO into your personal CoAS game you end up with over 260 ship types!
Granted, if Akella / BlackMark Studios were going for historical accuracy then you won't see later model ships because the game starts in 1654, but I like added variety.

This a bit confusing http://steamcommunity.com/app/223330/discussions/0/558749824550766391/ ummm are they still translating? Something that was supposedly "done" last year? Well March release as he said is most certanly comming up, we just need to guess a year :)

Damn too bad Dark souls II isnt out yet :(
Considering i made that inquiry on Steam over two weeks ago and i just received a response from BlackMark Studios that should give you an idea of what to expect regarding a potential release date

Well I hope they'll finish soon... This is something that can be and should be modded. (It seems to have moving stays'ls and jibs, which the other Storm games lack. That means added realism.)

They still have about 3,5 hours left. Don't lose hope guys.:D

I have to repeat here what I said in the Steam game page discussion group with a couple of extra points:

I have been overall impressed with the Storm Engine 2.8+ enhancements in POTEHO over the previous Storm version which fixes compatibility, performance, widescreen, and improved sailing models from CoAS.
Granted they could have done more, but they had a fixed budget, and its still a significant improvement in my book.

My background with POTEHO is I OWN the Russian released game, played through about 40% of its entirety, analyzed all the available scripts, code, and files that are NOT cypher locked, and broken down most of the changes that were included. I do not have the patience of my youth as translating Russian constantly gives me a headache after about an hour+.
Some of the original assessments made by others in extremely earlier posts with this thread are WRONG, as there are MANY features from CoAS that still exist within the game.
You can play as other characters as well, but you have to change the script codes and not all characters have full model textures and animations for equipment such as musketoons and cuirasses.
This other problem is dialogues will not always make sense because everything is related to "Charles De Mor" similar to "Peter Blood".

The only thing I see that does not exist in the game that is a bummer is the full nation quest lines, capturing cities for nations, and the lack of additional towns.
This could be modded into the game.

There is more than enough material here for modders to work with like MK did for GOF Eras for years to come. The game gives you more of what people wanted just in a weird way.
You could make an entire full virtual Caribbean here, just by relocating cities and implanting them from CoAS or vice versa and making a few new scenes like was done in POTC New Horizons.

Just having the "enhanced" Storm Engine 2.8 is a real benefit, but I need the source code to make things really sing "Yo Ho".

This game has great potential, but over 2 years waiting for English release is near "sunk ship" as most people have already left now.
Truly an opportunity lost, even if the Akella pirate series is beginning to go "retro" in terms of modern gaming entertainment.

I am not going to insult BlackMark Studios or Akella development capabilities here, but this is just plain stupid.
PA! could assist in final corrections if they at least released the game with a PROGRAM folder or provide the dialogue and quest script files along with voice ques so this can be finished quickly.
No one on the development team (BlackMark Studios) wants to "pony up" the files because they believe that they are going to make less money (and potential breach of contract...) from my discussions with others in Russian forums.
Do they think they are turning into Electronic Arts or UbiSoft?
I seriously doubt it, as Akella cannot even close a publisher contract on this game as a digital release or hard DVD version!
The really sad part is eventually the game will become "abandonware", modders will get the source code like we did for CoAS, and we will then fix the game ourselves AGAIN.

What do you mean by "very shortly"? Good to hear something at least. Will there be any other languages?

Hello everyone.

Explanations and status update are coming very shortly. And apologies. Clearly, we owe you a lot of them.

Cheers

Sorry, I don't believe this anymore.
This is a complete and utter repeat of CoAS from 2009.
This ship sailed years ago.

Just come out and say what you already know, but won't tell the the forum.
The POTEHO English translation project has been stalled for over a year, and Akella has lost interest in development.
I suspect the updates will be: that translations are not still not finished, voice acting uncompleted/rehashed, and script code has not been transcribed.
That is not news.

You have the best supporters here at this website for English speaking enthusiasts, and they were also left in the dark.
I had to go digging for my own information.
I am not blaming you, as you are a part of the development team doing your assigned job.
Its not your responsibility to get it finished and published, but I do frown on what has happened because as I have stated, it was a serious lost opportunity to expose a new modern generation of gamers to the Akella pirate series via Steam.

I think they should put the whole series on Steam because lots of people have problem to get these games anywhere outside Russia. But that's just my opinion.

We, along with a few others, have tried many times over the years to get POTC, CoAS and Sea Dogs available as a legitimate digital download somewhere on the internet. Our best hope has been GOG, but so far, no luck. You can vote for them to be put on GOG, for POTC go HERE, and CoAS go HERE. You can also read through some of their forum discussions here and here.

My personal opinion is it has more to do with Disney than it does with Bethesda or Akella. GOG games have no DRM, and I am sure that is a big reason why Disney would never give their approval. Although that shouldn't matter for Sea Dogs and CoAS, but I have no idea what was in the contract Akella signed. As far as Steam goes, those games are probably considered way to old, and would probably cost Steam to put them on, but that is just pure speculation on my part.

Do you know how many votes a game needs to be considered for GOG? Perhaps we should start advertising for people to vote there, especially once the next version of New Horizons comes out.
If so, we should discuss this elsewhere, of course.
