robc - the locators are defined in a 3d model, separate from the actual model itself, with the filename ending in "_l.gm". you can view them in gmview (turn on 'view locators' and 'view labels'), but since the locators model is separate from the model itself, it's hard to see exactly where each locator is in the game...
