Hey what about you could shange the texture of your ship in the shipyard for a little sum? It would be cool to customize your ship, not just use the one you get from the shipyard, sometimes it got terrible paintjobs. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Mad-h, I've already suggested this idea a year ago or when and I think Nathan told me its not really doable, so I dunno. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
 
Well actually there are more than one skin for a ship, the only task would be to make the ship change it's skin, i don't think it's impossible, since we can change the colors of our sails, change the emblems, and change the flags. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/closedeyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":||" border="0" alt="closedeyes.gif" />
 
The only way to know for sure what paint job your ship has is to make your own skin for your own personal favorite ship, and add it into the game so you can play it personally. Otherwise, it would be quite difficult to make a mod where you can change your ship skins like you can change your clothes. It would be a great mod to be able to choose which skin you can put on your ship, but rather unwieldy for the graphics engine (not to mention needing an interface for it - which we do not have).

Well i was thinking about changing the whole ship model, so it has another texture. When we buya a new ship in the shipyard we get a ship with a skin. What the ship skin depends on? So, is it linked to the ship properties (like i saw that all portugal design ships are black if i'm right <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> )? So we could change the whole ship, and reset the properties, that the old ship had, and we don't need any interfaces. It's in dialog. The shipwright tells you some color combinations, and you can select, then go to the port and see if you like it or not. How about that? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

At the moment the happenstance of you getting one skin over another is purely random - I don't think there's any nation-specific color scheme, unless something was changed while I have been away (possible!). There are some models of ships that are nation-specific, but the available skins are randomly chosen. I think about the only way to get you to know what ship skins are specifically on whatever ship you are planning to buy is to do what I did when I made some specific skins for certain ships - they have specific names like XebecCT or LuggerCT so you know what you are buying when you go into a shipyard.

If you wish to design new ship skins to apply to certain models, by all means, do so! We would welcome some nice new skins!
 
Cat, I thought the MoW skins were nation-specific... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Don't think the others are, though.
 
Well last time i bought two Corvette 2 (if i remember right) from the same shipwright, and they had the same skin. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":|" border="0" alt="mellow.gif" />
