As much as I despise all things Microsoft, this the most impressive demonstrations of new gaming technology I have ever seen!! Natal is such a new and innovative concept, I don't know if you can truly call it a "game controller".

The BBC also has an article up with another impressive video.

If this thing is finally released and with an accessible price we will be in complete science fiction...

I like it. Looks like the Wii could have competition. Wonder how much money it will take out of your pocket.

probably not much

but knowing microsift

it will burn a hole in your pocket.

I can see three problems right away.

First, unlike all the lucky people in the video, your game doesn't go quite so well. You get angry and give the finger. Does the system interpret that, and what does it do in response? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Second, after further frustration, you throw something at the screen. There's already a Youtube video somewhere of someone throwing his Wii controller through the screen - be careful what you use for a controller...

Third, at the end of the video you see the couple getting ready for a bit of off-screen action. The system will duly recognise what they're doing and broadcast it across the internet. With accurate photographic faces. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Well it truly looks impressive. Imagine how you would have to move around the room trying to board a ship and kill some sailors <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" /> .. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> ... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Meh.. just stick to the old fashioned controllers! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

..But Grey Roger, that is a very detailed analysis of problems easily dealt with <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Knowing MS, they would simply put the controller to ignore these gestures. Just like my nokia mobile phone just wont learn..hrm..certain words <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Imagine if you could capture motions and facial details/facial expressions for your own custom character. Woohoo!

Heya All,

This is getting me all excited, it really could be the end of the line though for screen entertainment.

I hope it works as good as it sounds. soon all of us computer game playing nerds will be fit and sexy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Fit maybe... some of us would need a LOT more work to be sexy! xD:

It would definitely add a whole new dimension to sword fighting! I don't know if it would be the end of screen entertainment, but it could sure change the way we interact with everything. This could be the very early stages of a Star Trek style Holodeck! Exciting stuff indeed!

Project Natal launch date set! Maybe by then I will actually get around to getting me an Xbox 360! :shrug

14 games and 5m units for Project Natal launch

Microsoft's motion control technology Project Natal is likely to launch with 14 games on day one, with the peripheral selling at below GBP 50 (USD 83 / EUR 55).

That's according to a report by retail site MCV, which claims Microsoft will be shipping five million units for release. It is expected to sell as a solo peripheral and to be bundled with Xbox 360 hardware.

The motion control technology was first unveiled at E3 this year, with all major publishers pledging support for the system although none have detailed specific titles.

Microsoft has shown off a collection of minigames for the system, and most famously, the Milo & Kate tech demo, created by Lionhead. Fable III will also support the technology.

Project Natal is Microsoft's push to extend the lifecycle of the Xbox 360, with Shane Kim expecting the technology to revolutionise the gaming experience.

Project Natal is expected to launch in November 2010.

Actually, that wouldn't surprise me to much Skyliner, there are all kinds of possibility's for that kind of interface on a PC platform. Much more than just games, I can see how that kind of recognition hardware/software would greatly open up the world of computers to people with all kinds of disability's. I can also see where security application could benefit greatly from that type of interface. If the price quoted in the article turns out to be accurate, it would well be worth it. I think that would be a great move on Microsoft's part and would open up a lot of good marketing avenues.

If they do ever release it for PC it will come some time after the Xbox 360, because it will rise the Xbox sales.

Im thinking the same thing...
