I have been trying to track down as much information about this film as I can since it's Dutch release. It appears that this film will indeed get a theatrical release in the US after all! I have not seen an official press release on this, but after doing a bit of searching, I did run across this post on Twitchfilm.com form back in June 2015 that I missed then.

Known on it's native soil by the name of its titular character Michiel De Ruyter, the Dutch historical epic film by Roel Reiné has been picked up for North American distribution by XLrator Media on their Turbo label. Here in North America it will be simply known as Admiral because I am sure that no one wants to piss off the Dutch by pronouncing De Ruyter's name wrong.

Part of that information was also listed on the films official page in June, I missed it there as well. However, it gives no date and simply states “early 2016.” I was looking around this morning and came across a bit of new information on this film, the IMDB movie page now says that it will be in theaters in the US on February 11'th 2016! There is also a listing now on the US movie ticket retailer Fandango under the title “Admiral,” but the listing has absolutely zero information and appears to simply be a placeholder. I have no clue how widespread a release it will be. It does however appear that they have dropped the “Command and Conquer.” moniker that was attached to the UK release of the film.

So is THAT the reason??? :rofl

^ That is much more silly than accidental mispronunciation could ever be! :razz

I agree 100%! I'm an American, and have absolutely no problems pronouncing Michiel de Ruyter ... I really do not understand marketing, nor do I care to!

Its incredible movie.. I watched it last month.
But is the storyline true about how he was betrayed by the dandy boy orange?

I gottu watch this one

I've recently bought and seen the blu-ray release, and I have to agree it's a very good movie. So congrats to our northern neighbours on this one!

I believe the story was a good mix of historical and theatrical. For example, the "final" battle was great story wise, but I doubt the historical accuracy of it.

It's also a must-see for anyone who has been to the Batavia. And everyone who has seen the movie might consider visiting her, as it's heavily featured in the movie (and just great to visit).

I never visit that ship for some reason. Maybe it is because she is sooo far away from here!!! :shock

Oh wait, she's on the other side of this very town I'm in.... :rofl

Normally, I like to see things as historically accurate as possible in film. In this case however I just wanna see some accurately portrayed multiple ship action, with lots of cannon balls and wood splinters flying and the occasional magazine explosion!

Batavia the one in Scheepvaart museum in northern side of Amsterdam?
that one in the museum is awesome i visit it every christmas period.. this year was nice and no tourists =)

That's pretty much what you'll get. I'm not 100% certain on the "accurately portrayed", but I dare say they give it a fair shot.

The "Amsterdam" is the ship in Amsterdam (it is the one in my signature).
The "Batavia" is in Lelystad.
