Making a Pre Build 13

Hello all Build players,

As you know, the Post Build 12 mods have been a Work In Progress for over a year now. It might finally be time to take the properly working parts and put it into a new Build version. The Post Build 12 mods seem to become a bit problematic, because a lot of bugs are being added and the filesize is just becoming too large to handle.

So the big question is: What do we need to do to make this Pre Build 13?

<b>1) We need to make the codebase itself, including everything that works fine and is finished and excluding all unfinished stuff and not properly working code.</b>
So what <i>should</i> be added into the Pre Build 13 and (especially) what shouldn't. I think we might have to leave out the new islands mod (because it's unfinished) and the translation mod (because it seems to cause trouble).

Please give me your notes on what should and shouldn't be added. You can also tell what new mods you reckon should be added before release. However, please only ask for new modification that are lacking in the game. For example, the ability to fix guns <i>and</i> blades at blacksmiths. Please don't ask for completely new stuff here (new quests, for example). Completely new stuff will be made eventually, but it won't be added into the Pre Build 13 just yet.

<b>2) We need proper documentation on all features.</b>
We need a ReadMe, a manual and maybe a known bugs list with workarounds. I know Meigger was working on a Manual, but because the features in the Post Build 12 mods kept changing has stopped working on it. I hope you can continue with this work to make documentation for the Pre Build 13.

I will first let everybody post their comments on making the Pre Build 13 update. After that, I will be spending the next few weeks (I won't be having too much spare time anymore, so I don't know how fast it will be done) merging the Post Build 12 mods with the original Build 12. After that I'll upload the Pre Build 13 somewhere, after which we should do some serious bughunting, bugfixing and during which time all documentation can be made. I hope you people will be willing to help.

BTW: Once the Pre Build 13 is done and bugfixed, we might be able to release it as a Build 13. I know its not working yet, but all it needs is a couple of landing sites that are permanent, and then add the buildings and stuff later. Surely we know were the beaches are, and the Docks for the ports, then we have some place to put are own buildings til real ones come along, besides they add to the map, I would hate too be sailing along some day after a new update and SAY! Oh! look a new island, what be sprung up, "way way and up she rises"......sorry, didnt mean to break into song. But that be only My opinion, and dont count fer much.

P.S. Thats were my interest has been lately, was thinkin of maybe placin some of them thar Locators and stuff to the beaches on those islands.....the funny thing is I though the Islands had beaches to land on in a previous update, but have not found any since.....but then I have reloaded so much I forget tew have fun exploring lately

However, once the Pre Build 13 has been made into a proper Build 13, I will make a Post Build 13 modpack including the new islands. Is that a good idea? Or should I really add the new islands in by default? Please give me your opinions, people.

Some islands have beaches and land locations, but most don't.

BTW: I will be unavailable until Sunday because I'll be sailing aboard the RIV Van Kinsbergen for my nautical education:

I think "New Islands Mod" should be in a proper Build 13.

That being said, I would ask, are there problems with islands where if you come out of map mode near one, the game crashes?

If so then at least one landing spot/beach could be worked on for each and every island while all the other nasty bugs are being worked out.
Then the entire package could be released as B13.

Any new towns/settlements/forts/characters etc. could be added later as part of the many Post B13 modpacks to come!
 
A pre build 13 manual <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> is not a problem for me Pieter. I still have all the work I have already done. I will continue working on it when things are basically finalized. However, I will need the writeups from the modders who have created mods that will be included in the pre build 13.

Personally, I agree, we need a stable pre 13 build in order to allow individuals to play through some of the original quests. I have tried but have been unable to complete the two biggest original quests (Black Pearl and stolen children) due to the bugs. Once we get a stable build it should be left alone and only mods that have been throughly tested added, although this has already been mentioned by several others.

There are only 2 islands who haven't any landing locations, all the others have landing locations but some of them are not completed. The 2 islands are Antigua and saint martin but soon i think, CCC and me will work on Antigua.

Thanks all for your input. Over the coming week or so, I will try to put all mods into the Post Build 12 mods and upload it as a single package. Then you can all test it. Then we should try fixing all bugs we can fix and singling out the mods that should be excluded from the Pre Build 13 version. After that, I will start work on making the Pre Build 13 version itself, which I will then upload for testing as well.
 
I very much welcome this project <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> I have to admit that the amount of changes in the latest modpack overtaxed my modding resources (you must not ask too much of an old parttime modder <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> ) So I'd prefer a simpler but stabler modcollection as basis for future work.

I think that the last modpack in December was rather bugfree (correct me if I'm wrong), so that could be a good basis for a Build sequel.

The new islands should IMHO be included, for two reasons:

- additional islands would be such an outstanding feature for a pirate game add-on

- FAIK the islands that are finished work fine, and completing the two unfinished ones would IMHO mean not much work and bugrisk IF we keep them simple: just a port with the basic store, yard and tavern, a landing beach and some jungle.

I could write them so that they work without the Buildingset, so that we can leave that out of Build13. I'll simply move the look-enhacing additional buildings into a "Buildingset for Build13" add-on <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I will first try to get the Post Build 12 mods to work as good as I can. After that, I'll be moving everything that should be in the Pre Build 13 into a Pre Build 13 codebase and leaving out everything else. You are right that the codebase has become much too complicated, especially with all those additional downloads. It's driving me nuts. The next modpack update will be a large one including everything, so no more additional downloads. Or at least not more than nescessary. At least I have plenty of webspace now again, thanks to Keith and High Sea Lass! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

Use your signature as a guide " 5 jan " for build 13. + armor fix etc.
For post build 13, leave new islands and others like it . This way post buld 13 has good starting size + people
who want new islands need post build 13.(and hehe also get the bugs <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> ) I have reinstallet my potc up to 5 jan, a good, relatively bugfree, easy and FAST way to build 13. Maybe you want to make several candidate builds and let people vote for the best? No more steamrolling <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> , hehe.
OK... IF Screwface and ccc get basic things.. landing. town. store. etc to every island AND NO playstopper bugs .THEN MAYBE new islands too.

I will leave the new islands mod out of the Pre Build 13, because it's still unfinished. As soon as it's done (or at least has all town locations and the default characters (shipwright, traders, etc.)) I will add it in.

I will try to make it as bugfree as I can. But there probably will be some bugs left anyway that will need to be fixed before going to a proper Build 13.

Your signature = Captain of amsterdam ...Pieters pirate pages latest update 5 jan.
armor bug = armor price =0 to 1 ccc fix. It was not fixed in jan 5 update etc.
I have 5 jan new islands too. If you leave islands out (not bad idea) you can merge them for build 13.1, when
they are ready + bugfixes . there is then build 12.1 and 13.1 . <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I think 5 jan update is the latest one you can use. have to make sure and test that you can play mainquest at least etc.
For those testers who can not reinstall to 5 jan. make way to do so (pre build 13 ??).
But I hope a little that ccc and Screwface with 5jan codebase can make new islands ready in time for build13.

First of all, It by itself, I DO NOT believe causes any "known" bugs and therefore can't hurt Its inclusion into any new "base" version of the Modpack. Yes some islands do not have their landing places, towns, or other such stuff. But these things can be added relatively bug free as their parts and manufacture are fairly routine by now to modders?. Most bugs seem to be part of "dialogs or script changes to missions and languages" The most troubling is that one involving Smugglers in Tavern Brawls, at least to me. "By the way, what caused this one to run a foul"? They never got into fights a couple weeks ago, someone "must" know what was changed to make them come alive now or something, they can't do that on their own, can they?

Anyway that is my two cents worth, I just feel the new islands being removed would affect everything from the maps, to the sea voyage itself, and really doesn't solve the problems that are here. And their towns and landings can be added so easily as they are finished. By the way, Screwface and CCC claimed they could have Antigua done in a week or so, probably they might be ready before you put the final touches on the base mod anyway? I know I would love to help with that, but by the time I learn to apply "locators" and "buildings" and could become a useful member of that team, they would probably be finished long before hand. Maybe someday

And Screwface has already made the towtable data and fortcommanders etc. so that we really only need to make locations and a few key characters. I've half of the Antigua locations already finished, so i am optimistic that we will have time enough to test the finished new islands before a Build13 is about to be released. Has anyone got the bug with pirate hunting missions i kill all the pirates & quest book wont update.. Im getting ready to try another port..
 
could you release a new version of the new islands mod VERY SOON ?

I hope the new islands are bigger (lore locations) than the old ones....
what about a isle where you can walk round the shore (complete) ?
