Location & island remodeling campaign

As I said, Swindler's great retexturing of Santo Domingo already did a lot to change the appearance of that town. (though he forgot the lighting/shadow files <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> , included them in the latest update of Remodeled_Locs.zip)

To enhance the effect I added a few buildings to Santo Domingo to let it look more like the important Spanish town that it is supposed to be: port bastion with drawbridge, mansions, cathedral and a roofed-over dock.
As usual you can download the latest location_remodeling\Remodeled_Locs.zip from the FTP.

BTW, I'll be offline for a week. Til next weekend <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Hello mateys, I went away from the pirate scene for some months, but now on my return, I find this awesome thread and I want in <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> . I always wanted to create a new town from scratch, maybe using a different approach, specially after seeing what this engine can do in voyage century, like bigger scenarios with lower detail in some elements, it would be nice to test some new ideas, all I need is your support in answering any dumb questions I may ask and also someone who can actually put the new towns ingame, who is interested? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Maybe you should start with making some additional models in excisting towns, and make a path and lighting files for them.

Making new towns from scratch is probably rather challenging, because nobody but Akella knows how to. But modifying existing towns has proven pretty possible. It would be great if you could try to work on that! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

And a very hearty welcome back, by the way! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Thanks for the warm welcome Pieter. I think creating new towns can wait a bit until we make more tests, but eventually it has to be done, the tutorial CCC wrote made things clearer for me, last time I only managed to replace redmond´s fort, but now I think more complex things could be done.

I will follow your advice and create new buildings for the existing islands, all I need is directions or a wishlist and someone who can texture and code.

- big mansion

- tower<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Any news about this list ?

I can take the wall and the tower, I specialize in military buildings. They will be renaisance/baroque style tho, not the unnacurate medialval style currently used in POTC.

But for all this I need someone to help me with exporting and choosing the more adecuate game textures, someone experienced with Inez tool.

Thomas the Terror is the only active member who modifies towns. Perhaps you might be able to contact CouchcaptainCharles as well though.

Hello thomas, how are you? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

For now I offer you my talents as a 3D modeller, I think I can help you create totally new content to place over existing towns, maybe with time we can create a completely new location, but for know I would like to try adding some real-life buildings to the game, maybe as landmarks we can all recognize. A friend of mine is working on a 3D model of San Juan and I am doing the same for Cartagena, but some parts of those models can be modified and used for other caribbean ports, what do you say?. I am open to ideas and requests but I want to limit them to military buildings to start, thanks.

I am fine, how is the probress of those buildings coming along?
Could your friend also become member here.

The more buildings, the merrier, even WITH CCC's buildings, we have too few, almost in every new modified town stands for example a windmill.

Well well, hello guys,
Captain Caceres introduced me on your intentions and asked me to get on board this forum.
I'm not too sure on what's passible with the PotC engine, and i bet i'll have to reduce all detailes in my final San Juan model but i hope we can get along bringing Caceres and my Model (and hopefully some more real existing Cities and Forts) to live in that game.
As u asked Thomas i'll give u some Render so u can see for yourself the actual progress.

with this i already got the first Question - Texturing!
is it possible to texture the model befor importing to PotC?? or will this be a painfull long process using some special tools?

and another render - the city itself will take some time as i've just done 1/6 of the Citywalls (not counting the perimeter forts)

Yes, it is possible to texture the model before it's imported into PotC <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

And this sure is nice model <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Thanx a lot <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
and some good news for texturing!!

hopefully i can post the first citywall parts in a few days
