Lay up Ship Mod Build 11 ~ How to board the other ship?

ok, say I have 2 ships currently in use and I want to lay up one of them.

how do I board the other one?

The only way I can figure out to do this is to buy a tartane for $2000 and sail out to my other ship, then swap ships, then return to the ship yard and sell the Tartane for $200.

I haven't tried switching back to a layed up ship yet, but I image it will have to be done the same way in reverse to avoid loosing the ship I am switching from, I can't see any other way to leave someone in command of the ship I am leaving.

Isn't there a way for me to just board my other ship without going through all that trouble?

and can you lay up more than one ship at a time?

Lay up your ship and then swap ships with your officer. Then you can remove the officer from his swapped empty "ship". There is still a bug in it though: the `non-existent` ship will "sink" and you'll get exp from sinking it when you remove the captain from it.
