last lost city

Landlubber
ive been playing sid meiers pirates! for a while now and im up to the last lost city, the olmec i think it is. its the last thing i have to do, other than make all the cities one nationality. i have all the pieces of the map, however there are no landmarks and no shoreline, the only clue i have is that its north of gran granada. i have tried looking around there, for about 4 hours, but im not that great a navigator on land and i cant find it.

if there is anyone who can help me find this city it would be greatly appreciated.

Well as ol' GIJoe hisself would prolly say, ye gots tew git right on de northside o' Gran Granada, point yerself exactly north, an' walk a loooong time usin' yer telly scope! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> Anudder thang dat heps Fred Bob sometimes be tew head fer an' intermediate landmark, not a tree nor a geyser, but sumptin' else dat ye kin use as a concrete waypoint! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I made my way to gran granada, sacked it while i was there, and headed due north of it. i continued north until i reached the coast, near a french settlement called Nouveau Liberte. during my journey i was continuously scanning the horizon for any signs of a concrete landmark, or any landmark that wasnt a tree or geyser, but i found nothing.

Have ye tried searching another land mass north of Gran Granada? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Dearest Catalina - I do not think the treasure would be on another land mass in this case. As the game tends to pick the closest city and Gran Grenada if pretty far from any other city that is North of it. As an example of what I mean, if you look at the map and say the location is directly north of Gran Grenada, on the Northern most tip of the land mass the map should say N. East of Campeche, or possible S. West of Havanna.. That make since?

GIJoe, standard form response #1 (map locations)

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> (fill in the blank)

I just wish I had a dollar for every thread and post about finding map locations. Every few days there is a new one. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Fact of the matter is, locations are different everytime you play the game. Where someone else found the lost city/treasure may not be where you will find it. Although to be fair, there are some landmarks that are repetitive.

The best bet is for you to simply decide to find that location and do so.. Do not get frustrated, or angry. Just start at the target city and walk in the general direction the map shows. If you come to the edge of the map and do not find a land mark that is on the map and that is not common, (totem pole or head statue), simply walk left or right for approx one screen and reverse course. Eventually you will find the location. Just search a "GRID" pattern up/down left/right. I have never not been able to find the correct location using the pattern.

There are more techniques that I use, but I do not feel like posting a more lengthy post at this time. Bottom line is, you cannot give up.

<span style='color:darkred'>Most people tend to forget that finding the map locations are PART OF THE GAME. It seems like most just consider it a "side" item to be dealt with as soon as possible so you can get back to playing the "game". IMHO</span>

EDIT: Adding this last bit above.

Aye, GIJoe! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Sometimes when ol' Fred Bob be failin' tew find de location, he presses 'r' tew return tew shore, sails a bit o'er tew de side along de coast an' den tries it agin! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Anuddar thang dat kin happen is usin' de wrong landmark! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> In me current game, thar be TWO Cutthroat Reef landmarks not all dat far from one anudder! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

thank you GIJoe, i will try that

the only problem with my map is that there are no landmarks whatsoever, just the cross. does this mean that there could still be landmarks near the city or there are none?

Oh.. that could present a minor problem. But if you follow a grid pattern you will find the correct spot.

When I refer to landmarks I mean a reference point that is on the map that you can find while searching. If there are no reference points, (landmarks), on the map, then even if you see totem poles, heads and such it will not matter, as they indicate nothing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
