How does it end?

I`ve completed everything, including 10/10 for romance. I made - Duke - Baron - Marquis - Captain and have 500.000 gold pieces. My fame number is 90.
What happens next? Do I get told I`ve completed or do you just play on indefinately?
David

You fame is only 90!?!! BAH!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

But anyway, it dosen't stop. At some point you retire. It's an option when you devide up the plunder. Based on you fame you get shown your retirement carrer and you get a synopsys of your accomplishments. But if you don't retire, it keeps going. But it does got harder the longer you play and the older you get.

I don't know if it foreces you to retire at some point or not. Maybe if your health gets too low.

Now, mateys, 90 ain't so terr'ble fer a first or second game! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

90 isn't bad but he said he completed everything.
Everything is 126.

Something was overlooked. Trying to find where they hid another 36 fame points would expand the scope of his game.

The only thing I can think of is the fact that I only made it to duke with the French. I have saved all family members, got Montalban as my cabin boy, found 3 Aztec cities and all the treasure maps. Nothing is shown as needing to be done on my status screen.
I haven`t needed to attack Spain or anyone else cos I was getting so much gold from other sources.
You lot have made me feel inadequate!
I going to go on a killing spree and see what happens.
David

Ah, I just discovered that you can be forced into retirement. Get in bad enough health it wil force retirement on you when you devide the booty. Getting the medicine bags do help. Even after it would be normaly to late.

Also, there are 4 lost cities. And to REALLY rack up the fame, you want to become high ranking in all 4 cultures. Hard to do with the spanish, but beating up on the Dutch for a while can help. And converting a city to their side is allways good for a promotion. You can allways take it back. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

Yes, I just found out that there was another city. The city of Olmec.
I have the map and it tells me to look north of Vera Cruz. I`ve gone right, left, up and down and nothing on the map matches up. I have a reference point, so I know that I`m in the right place.
It`s very frustrating.

yes but you dont have to divide plunder <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> i seem to recall you need at least 1000 gold pieces per crew member to keep them from becomming mutinous <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

If you want to become a Duke with all the nations, the best method I have found is going EXCLISIVELY after pirates . . .

It is hard to get hte gold to keep the men happy - you have to make do with about 50 men for a long time, or divide the plunder (which sucks) but you can get Duke in all four very quickly indeed by just attacking pirates and indians.

All cities are friendly, all the girls dance with you, whenever you get a mission to get a criminal (do these as well) you can just sail right in . . .

It's a really, really good method of advancement.

Of course, sometimes you just HAVE to attack a nation's shipping - the Spanish villains, for example - or maybe you REALLY want that treasure ship and can't help yourself. But, if you just take a few more pirates they soon forget about that.

If you want to "spawn" pirates, simply go into the pirate haven and speak to the captain. Works like a charm.

Thanks for that. Hadn`t thought about attacking the indians. Hardly seems sporting to hit those tiny canoes!
I`ve got my fame up to 110 now and nothing seems to be improving it.
I`ll keep on for a bit longer and then give up, if nothing happens.
I haven`t had trouble with the men getting unhappy. I`ve made a lot of dough and they seem ok.
David

The problem comes is that the amount of wealth required to get the last few fame points is rather high . . .

Try checking out your personal status - you will see where you are "missing" points, they are expressed as "x/9" or whatever.

Then you can see where you haven't completed the little missiony bit.

I am currently 33 and chasing the last five points, all in wealth. I haven't divided the plunder yet, so I will get some more when I do that - but I only have about 6,500,000 gold so it's not going net me quite enough - I need more land!!

Currently; chasing around the Carribean, beating up random pirates and indians and hunting down the criminals my wife tells me about.

Oh, here's a good hint - always keep visiting the governor until he stops giving you land. They appear to give land for no apparent reason - I went to Port Royale, got land, went to San Catalina (English) and got more land - didn't even <i>see</i> a ship between these times! Then, I visited the governer of S.C. again and got <i>more!</i>

Go figure. Governors appear to offer land if you dance well with their daughters, too - so visit, dance, visit again. So far, only seems to work with beautiful daughters - but it is 50 land for nothing.

The figure I`m low on is wealth. I`ve never had to divide the plunder cos I`ve managed to keep my crew happy. Does that make a difference?
You say you have six and a half million gold - is that right? if so, I`m a long way off.
David

Sorry, I meant 650,000 gold - it was very late when I typed that and I'd been playing Pirates! all day! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That's what I was guessing, but you never know . . . 6.5M might have been what you really plundered. Was waiting for some `mega-tips`.

The best I was able to get with just pikcing on pirates was 121. And I had to push it to get that far! Proably best to get everything done picking on pirates until you have all the points from everything but wealth then pick on the spanish. Get lots of gold from them and land from the other guys.

I`m up to 114 now and the only points missing are for gold (currently 600,000) and two more promotions from the English.
Bit of an anti climax really.
