How can I be awarded land?

As you can see, I'm new to this forum, and first of all I just wanted to tell anyone
whom it might concern who might be reading this, that I've installed the Build 12-mod,
and it really makes the game awesome. That's some quality work and I'd wish to extend my
gratitude to anyone involved in the process of making the mod real. Thanks.

I also have a question, which may be easy enough for you to answer, but then all the better.
I've completed the main quest and a bunch of side quests and built up a considerable personal wealth,
however, I still have 0 acres of land, and I really want a piece of land.
I've been doing jobs for the Douwesen governor, sinking pirate ships over and over (about 20 done I'd guess)
but I'm starting to think that maybe that's not the way. I also bought a Letter of Marque, but I don't
quite know what it does, it seems to put me in the service of Holland, but there's no real difference as far as I can tell.

<b>So, my question is this;</b> how do I get a piece of land? Do I need to keep doing those jobs for the governor
and sink gazillions of ships before he might say that I've done well enough to get some land, or do I need to
do something else to get it? And, has the Letter of Marque any effect on my chance to get land at all?

Thank you for taking time to read this, and have a nice day.

The Letter of Marquee has a very large impact on the chance to get land. You can't get it without a LoM. If yo have sunk enough ships, go to the governor. He will tell you you are up for promotion. Talk about this and you will be given a new rank. And with a new rank comes more land. Please note: You do get a monthly amount of personal wealth from your land, but you can't actually go and visit your land, unfortunately.

Allright, I'll keep sinking those ships then.
I'm quite sure I've got the letter of marque, but is there any way to check it just in case?

Thanks for the help. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

In the nation relation screen, select the nation from which you think you have a LoM. if you do have one, it'll say "Letter of Marquee" in the relation part somewhere at the bottom of the screen.

Also, make sure you have land owner checked on your abilities screen. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> and welcome aboard there, matey.

Good luck in becoming a successful land owner in the Colonies.

hehe one time i was playing around with the charcters init and i put the land too like 2 billion. i made a lot of money. Too bad it only counts as personal wealth.

You can donate money to the crew, so you can put your personal wealth into the crew's money and you can then use it ike regular money. Please note: You can't put it back again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

BTW: The Land Owner ablity is not required to be a land owner. It just makes you get more money from your land than you otherwise would.
