The Indefatigable was not French Built.

The most famous French built ship in British service was HMS Superb (former Le Superbe).

The HMS Indefatigable was designed in England by Sir Thomas Slade (who also designed HMS Victory) and she was the sistership to HMS Agamemnon.

Both the Indefatigable and the Agamemnon were designed and built as 64 gun 3rd Rate `Ships-of`-`the-Line`, and the Agamemnon (which was commanded by Horatio Nelson for a time, before he went to HMS Captain) remained a 64 gun ship throughout her whole career. Indefatigable, however, was 'razeed' (cut down) to powerful Frigate standard and served most of her career as a 44 gun 4th Rate Frigate.

It was as a '44' that Indefatigable serverd her most heady days as a cruising Frigate under Edward Pellew, who was then a `Post-Captain`, but who would soon become an Admiral and command the Channel Fleet.

a '64' (as these were originally) can not be, and is not a Frigate. a 64 is a 3rd Rate, the smallest rate that can lie in the line of battle, where the Indefatigable, after she was razeed, carried a nominal battery of 44 guns, and was thus a 4th Rate, and as such a Frigate, and too small to lie in the line of battle.

History, my friend, is the story of our lives. I've been studying it since I was but a wee bairn. I can't imagine doing anything else. . . :?:

Yeah; Hornblower. . . (I was just reading through the Natividad vs. Lydia battle in the books again last night, whacking great fun) Problem is, the ingame models don't have any of Hornblower's hats!
