Has anyone ever actually been to Gran Granada?

I mean, is it really worth is to go there if you don't want to replace it with a different country? Seems to me all it's good for is a location on treasure maps and the like. And we can't even sail on the rivers. Arr, that be stinkin'. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Even after all this complaining I'll still make the trek and attack it, just because I'm a fool and don't want that yellow flag with the black lion anywhere.

Yes I went there, reluctantly. I was searching for Monty's hideout. Its funny though, I hadn't seen a single famous pirate. As soon as I went to Gran Granada and up the coast further I found 8 of the famous pirates, one almost right after the other. I found the battles surprisingly easy but my flagship (ship of the line) was smoking quite a bit after the last battle. I'm serious though, one famous pirate right after the other, it was like each one was coming to avenge the death of the last one. I did find the trip back to Havanna difficult as I couldn't stock up on enough food before heading back.

I have played over 25 complete games, and I have never been to Gran Grenada or Panama. I have only been to Puerto Principe one time, and that was because a treasure was right by it. I am a sea dog - not a land lubber, however, in my current game, I am going to change every Spanish city, so I am going to have to visit those towns.

Aye, Fred Bob's been tew Gran Granada several times! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> First time ye really wonder if'n yer gonna git lost, but now it be no big deal! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

First time I went there I was slightly off and wound up quite a bit north of the destination. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Panama and Puerto Principe will definitely be seeing a visit from me, because they're an easy walk.

Pizza- lucky you had a ship of the line- with any other ship ye might have been in Davy Jones's locker! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

(In case anyone ever wanted to know, it takes about a month to get from one end of Honduras to the other. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> )

I went there once as I had a lost city NW of Gran Granada and it was the only one I could find it.

I´ve often been in panama and gran granada. I mostly do this when I´ve got most of the fame points and nothing better to do. Gran Granada ist easy to sack in or plunder Panama was often heaviliy defended and I takes me some landbattles until I get it plundered.

One thing the game doesn't seem to handle well is the `land-locked` cities. I sacked and took over Puerto Principe and changed it to French. I came back a year or so later and the city still had no soldiers, no population, and was poor. There doesn't seem to be any way to get troops, immigrants, governors, etc. to those cities and the AI doesn't do it by itself.

I was sitting here earlier wondering how to reinforce the cities I'd taken over. You bring them a new gov and new settlers and seeds, but you can't escort the military? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Ye can't escort them officially,nuth'n stopp'n ye from foller'n em an attack'n any ships that try te get in yer way <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

True, but I really hate seeing a town I've sacked and won and brought a new governor - and immigrants - and seeds - to, with NO soldiers. It is ripe for invasion, and I have found myself spending entirely too much time trying to keep enemies from taking her... I took Maricaibo from the Spanish and had that situation. The DUTCH ended up capturing her, and I was too busy to go take her back. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I would like the option to escort troops to my cities I am trying to build up, or an option to leave some of my crew to guard the city, until replacements arrive.

I was playing last night, and had just sacked Santa Marta and installed a French Governor. I then headed to Cartagena to sack it. It took about 4 months to get there, because invasion force ships just kept sailing out of the city. As soon as I would kill one, another would leave the city, and I would have to kill it.

I have had that happen in several games. It seems that once the AI has decided to invade a city, they are going to do it no matter what. I once intercepted 11 invasion force ships, one right after the other, all headed to invade Villa Hermosa, which I had taken from the Spanish.

Back on topic - I finally went to Gran Grenada and Panama last night for the first times. Sacked both of them. Now there are no more Spanish.

I can attest to first hand knowledge on how bad an idea it is to kill off all the Spanish.. the french, and the Dutch, (save for Curacao, where my darn wife is).

After a certain time, it can get real boring having no one to pillage and harass. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I spent a few years trading and increasing the financial health of all my English towns. Experimented with various trading strategies... but in the end... there was no one to bother.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

In all the games where I do this now.. after changing all the towns, I then change 1 back to the other nationalities and wait for them to try attacking the English towns. I then can attack/capture their invasion forces and or `re-take` towns they do manage to conquer..

Much fun again... ( I am easy) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Actually, due to a bug, it is a very good idea to get rid of one or two nations entirely. When you have sacked, for example, the Spanish, and take a delivery job from someone who is at war with them, you will have Spanish Privateers attacking you who carry 20000 - 30000 gold on them.

In my latest game on Rogue, I first destroyed every Spanish and then every Dutch town. Now, when I take a delivery job from the English or the French (who have a peace treaty with each other) I get attacked by the Dutch or the Spanish and my loot is going up _fast_, due to the vast amounts of gold that they carry with them.

They usually attack in pairs, however, and it seems that one of them carries the usual amount of gold (about 500), but the other one carries the booty of your lifetime! My last capture was about 35 000.

Still, I hope that they fix this in the patch...

As soon as I take Panama I'm retiring. I have nothing left to pillage.

My next guy might just war with three countries, and only side with, say, Holland, but that'd take forever.

That's what I did. I was playing for the French, and Panama and Gran Grenada were my last two sacks. Every city was French. I finished Gran Grenada, sailed to St. Augustine, and retired.

<!--QuoteBegin-Wolfwood+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Wolfwood)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->They usually attack in pairs,<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Those privateers are pretty good, I agree - have had them come after me when I'm escorting new gov's, settlers, and grain transports... I always like seeing them, because it makes the escort missions much more enjoyable! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
