Good Dutch Names

Grey Wolf

Landlubber
Hello everyone. I'd like to ask if you can help me with a list of good Dutch names which I can use for ship names & a Username. Dutch is the only language in the game which my knowldege of is close to zilch, so your replies would be helpful. Thanks.

I'm no expert, but here's some suggestions: Amsterdam, Holland, Tulip, Helmsgaard, Helgesson, Mortensen, Deepsgaard, anything with a double "a" or a double "s" or an "en" for ships names and familial names.

I don't know if this is helpful, but there's a great site about historical last names in various European cultures here:

I should be an expert <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> but I never heard of names like Helgesson, Mortensen, Deepsgaard... I think they're more Scandinavian. You could start by taking old dutch town names: Utrecht, Amsterdam, Leiden, Nijmegen, Arnhem, Groningen, etc. You can look on the web for other old town names <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

I like "Het is Nu Mijn" ("It's Mine Now"). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Dutch language related questions are about the only Pirates related questions I can answer confidently <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

I think "The Oven" would be a good name for a Dutch ship. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

go to the random name generator

<a href="http://www.behindthename.com/random.html" target="_blank">http://www.behindthename.com/random.html</a>

pick a nationality and gender and it will give you lots of first names.
no last names, though.
