Getting Interceptor into the game

<!--QuoteBegin-Pieter Boelen+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Pieter Boelen)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Knowing Kazeite: Probably not so high. The Black Pearl seems to run really quite smooth as well.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I´m asking ´cause I´m working on a new ship atm and I cant open tool created ship vrml models in Blender for comparison (other vrml files work just fine <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> ).

The <i>Interceptor</i>s polycount is 7916, with masts and reys taking another ~1k.

The <i>Black Pearl</i>s current polycount is 17889, which will increase once I'll put new version ingame.

In comparison, stock PotC ships have about 2k-5k <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But hey, I'm making hero ships - they deserve more polys, damnit! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> (and besides, <i>corvette 1_47</i> almost reaches 47k <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

I assume you´re talking about tris, right?

If so, thats some very good news, the hull of my ship has about 2300 polies with the gunports already cut . Total polycount is going to be in the low 30k region, I think.

(Don´t mind the textures, I just checked if I got the UV mapping right)

PS: Oh, and sorry for the thread hijack <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<!--QuoteBegin-Morgan Terror+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Morgan Terror)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->and with the driver you mean the gaff, right?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yes, but I call it the driversail because the spars that hold it are the gaff on top and the boom on bottom. There's also the spanker, but that's a bit different... the boom would have to be longer.

Oh man, over 30k for the hull alone? Don't you think it's wee bit too much?

Yeah, that too.

Which reminds me, I may have to change her paint job, making her more like <a href="http://pds7.egloos.com/pds/200710/08/78/e0052878_4709d83e32afd.jpg" target="_blank">the "real" <i>Wicked Wench</i>.</a> - black on red with gold accents.

Since we already have plans for England to have appropiately painted RN ships only, we could extend that to the other nations, right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The way I see it, it's like that: English have yellow on black scheme (with Caribbean squadron having yellow on dark blue), French have red on black, and USA has white on brown. Any idea for rest of the nations?

Where did you find that image? Is that some sort of official image? I don't see the "Pirates of the Caribbean" logo on the display; but then I can't read all the text. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
I can't imagine that the real film crew actually already established the look of the Wicked Wench, considering they didn't even mention her in any of the films.
I don't really like that look for her; much to medieval for my taste. I prefer her to be mainly wooden, like your current version. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I'm not sure about having England use ONLY RN painted ships, but we definitly intend the RN painted ships to only be used by England. I would personally like to have ALL British navy ships to have that RN look and we could then indeed extend that to other nations as well.

The Dutch trading (VOC) ships had green sterns as seen on the specifically Dutch ships that have been added, Amsterdam, Batavia, Fleut4_50 and Frigate5_47. I would like to have this green stern colour scheme for all specifically Dutch ships, regardless of whether they're navy or merchant vessels. That might not be 100% realistic, but it'd be FUN! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

For the French, I know the Napoleonic colour scheme was red on black, but there's also the older royal French ships like Lineship5 that have the fleur de lis and a bright blue colour scheme. So I could also see the French using some blue and gold ships before the Napoleonic era.

I would personally associate Spain with red and golden colours, but I'm not sure if that is really realistic. I'd like to see such painted ships though. I have no idea on Portugal.

I think I'll need to finish that shipslist of mine, so that we can start grouping certain ships together based on colour scheme and assign them to the various nations.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Oh man, over 30k for the hull alone? Don't you think it's wee bit too much?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

That would be indeed a bit much, I meant 30k for the hole ship^^

man, i can make LEGO ships better than THAT. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> and i'm talking about paper/wooden/wotsit wicked wench model, mind you.

It's the paper model of the ship from PotC theme park ride <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> It's actually available for download.

Yes, yes, that's what I mean too. I misspoke.

The PotC theme park ride? But that is not nescessarily the Wicked Wench then, is it? I say we keep the look we have now; looks much better and not as cartoonish.

<img src="http://www.funnyphotos.net.au/images/the-black-pearl-pirate-ship-sailes-with-holes-in-t1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

No, but that's not the point, is it? The point is that I'm considering redoing paint job for our <i>Wicked Wench</i>. And I certainly wouldn't want to replicate that cartoonish look exactly.

If you can come up with something better than what you have now, that's fine by me. But otherwise I'm happy with the current paint job as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<b><u>Paint Schemes</u></b>
<i>Royal Navy</i> - Black hull with broad yellow-ochre stripes along gunports. Tops of gunport lids are black and underside is dark red. Decks are natural wood, masts are yellow-ochre with black fittings. Trimmings and scrollwork are gold.
<i>East India Company</i> - Same as Royal Navy, but with thin yellow-ochre stripes along the gunports and yellow-ochre topped gunport lids.
<i>Napoleonic French Navy</i> - Black hull with maroon stripes along the gunports. Tops of gunport lids are black and underside is red. Decks are natural wood, masts are natural wood with black fittings. Trimmings and scrollwork are gold.
<i>Spanish Navy</i> - Black hull with red stripes along the gunports. Tops of gunport lids are black and underside is red. Decks are natural wood, masts are natural wood with black fittings. Trimmings and scrollwork are gold.
<i>Portugese Navy</i> - Black hull with orange stripes along the gunports. Tops of gunport lids are black and underside is red. Decks are natural wood, masts are natural wood with black fittings. Trimmings and scrollwork are gold.
<i>United States Navy</i> - Black hull with white stripes along the gunports. Tops of gunport lids are white and underside is red. Decks are stained black, masts are white with black fittings. Trimmings and scrollwork are white.

If you want to know about a navy's scheme that I have not mentioned, ask me.

And when it comes to the <i>Wicked Wench</i>... if she's a vessel of the EIC, wouldn't she be painted in the EIC scheme? And she couldn't be privately contracted to the Company... because Beckett would then have no say or power to keep Jack from doing what he wants or leaving.

You didn't mention the Dutch. If you have any information on their colour schemes, both navy and merchant...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Was Jack an ordinary captain in the EITC? I always thought that the Wicked Wench was Jack's own ship (sort-of), but he was under contract with the EITC for some reason. Probably the monetary gain of the salary in addition to the monetary gain gained when Jack would secretly run off on his own errands.

As I remember the "history" and as we have it in the Quest now, Jack gets the Wicked Wench for services rendered to Beckett, as a "servant" of the EITC.
And it is indeed an EITC ship.
Jack, however, reneges when he finds that he is to collect slaves, and then justifies stealing the ship for himself, which is why Beckett chases him down, sinks it etc. etc.

I think your description of the VOC is pretty solid Pieter. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

<i>Dutch Navy</i> - Black hull with natural wood stripes along the gunports. Tops of gunport lids are black and underside is red. Decks are natural wood, masts are natural wood with black fittings. Trimmings and scrollwork are gold.
<i>VOC</i> - Natural wood hull with black whales. Forecastle, quarterdeck, and poopdeck bulwarks are painted dark green along with un-gild parts of stern. Tops of gunport lids are natural wood and underside is red. Decks are natural, masts are natural wood with black fittings. Trimmings and scrollwork are gold.

Thanks very much, Commodore. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
What is it with Napoleonic ships and black hulls? I don't like black that much as a colour. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

As far as the Wicked Wench is concerned: In our current unfinished semi-official-but-not-quite prequel script, Jack has her straight from the beginning, so there's no "clue" there as to how he got a hold of her. I'd like to have some backstory on that. Of course in the game quest, you are awarded her by Beckett. But perhaps for the "real" story, we can come up with something different. The game quest and prequel script are quite different anyway; I like to think of them as two versions of the same myth. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
