I thought as much. So if you want to cooperate on developing a good installation process, just let me know.
I've been experimenting with making an EXE installer that extracts a 7-Zip file, which should be easy to work with once it is all operational.
Then for future releases, you just need to post a regular 7-Zip file and don't even need to recompile the EXE.
Downloading. Do I have this right? Clean COAS then this Beta?
I know exactly what he did: 7-Zip Self-Extracting EXE. That is brilliantly simple, BUT doesn't allow for:Ayup, it installs fine. Pieter you should look at what Luke159 has done here as this is an 8.8gb install onto the stock game and it works.
Developing an installation method and developing the final release files are two different things. No problem bud, at the moment i'm still working on a few things for this release version before its ready. I just wanted to get the beta standalone out of the way first, then I could use that version to help further develop the release version.
Perfectly true. I use it for internal test releases all the time for that very reason.Well the system is simple to create and should be simple for anyone to use, point the .exe to your game directory and let it do what it needs to do.
Yes. Lots of them. And we get to deal with them here. Not so hard when you know how to do it, but obviously you'll alway's get those who do something wrong.

My new system is proving very promising though and will, amongst others, make it just as easy to make new installers as creating a self-extracting EXE is.
Now I've got a 500 kB installer file that takes all the content from regular 7-Zip files. Plus it has support for updates.
So you can have one large archive with all required files and then another archive with future updates and the installer will install them both properly.
Once I've got the PotC version done, I could easily adapt it to CoAS as well. Then all you'd need to do is to make the 7-Zip file containing the actual content.
Yes. Lots of them. And we get to deal with them here.
I'd rather avoid that. Don't underestimate the number of people out who won't be able to make it work!
