Powder Monkey
Hey,
First of all, id like to express my deepest gratitude and support for the creators of this mod, it has restored my faith in modern games and my hope to find a decent Age of Sail Game.
So my issue:
Im running a early 2011 Macbook Pro 15-inch (system specs: before "Links" section) and to use any windows software (since im on a mac) i have to use Wine VM (link in description) (Wine VM specs before: "Links" Section)
1. The original Game installs and works flawless (PotC by Akella)
2. The install for New Horizons Build 14 4.0 works flawless, not a single hiccup or anything.
3.When i open the game and play around with the options and create a new character, it works without issues too, i can do pretty much anything up to this point
4. However (there is always a "however"), When i log in-game, i can play all around the game if i don´t go to sea, meaning that i can walk around islands, go through loading screens, fast travel to all locations/ship, talk to vendors, acquire items, kill people, hire officers, etc. all that WITHOUT suffering a single trouble. BUT, if i try to get into sea (move to "Sea" from ship´s deck) there is a random (havent figured out % yet) that the game will crash under the error "Engine.exe has stopped working", i said random because:
a)- sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesnt
b)-other times the game just freezes and stops to load (in the loading screen, it gets stuck)
c)-few times it doesnt happen and allows me to play (the engine.exe has stopped working will happen randomly anytime i go to another loading screen though)
5. The Deck-->Sea transition is the one where i most commonly get the crash or the "stuck" however i have expeirenced it in some other situations:
a)Changing decks while boarding
b)after finishing a boarding (exiting the goods/crew/cannons/assign officer/swap ship UI)
c)starting a boarding
Note: i feel its important to note that it hasnt happened to me yet while in-land
6.This, noticeably, makes the game hard af to play, to much of my dislikement, ive read through the whole PiratesAhoy forums and all around the internet for some fixes so:
a) Ive tried the inbuilt installer Intel Fix: But this does absolutely nothing, same rate of crashes
b) used the SwiftShader Fix demo (pre-build 14 4.0): This seems to help to some extent by reducing a bit the amount of crashes but doesn't turn it into "playable"
c) changed the sea.dll to sea_modified.dll: This seems to help the most but like the one before, doesnt fix it till "playable"
d)playing in windowed mode: absolutely nothing
e) reinstalling: ive got 4 copies of it already due to fresh installs, AKA: nothing
Note: i´ve used the 3 all together and nothing fixes it anyway
As you can imagine this makes "playing" this mod more of a frustration than a pleasure since every loading screen is a russian roulette so i would honestly and sincerely love any help i could receive.
I feel im not omitting anything but if i am please let me know and ill try to reply ASAP.
On the other hand (although unlikely) if the game is "so" unstable please let me know and ill resume my testing of it rather than thinking its broken
Thank you very much
