every sea battle = crash [beta 3 full]

I wanna say hi to everyone, cause it's my 1st post here. That's a pity that i have to complain, sorry. Ok, let's get back to main problem. Both sea battles and even drifting near the sea lags awfully. And after few mins in every sea battle there is a crash. After texture degradations it was little less laggy, but still crashes. Is it possible that beta 3 have much higher system requiements that previos versions and unmodded game and my ancient cpu (Athlon 1.10 GHz, 512 mb ram, NVidia Geforce 3 ti) can't handle it? Unmodded game and also beta 14 2.1 runs easily on my com. Here are also my logs. Any solution? Please...

Hm ... do you run PotC with that enhanced grahics that you may or may not install?
If so, it may just be that it is more laggy because of that, because your system doen't seem to be that powerful.
No idea about the crashes.

I got one more idea. I noticed that 7z archive is only 2,33 gb (2 445 572 KB) and there was a lot of strange bad downloads... Probally moddb is a little sucky with big files download. Now downloading 7z archive from mirror and we'll see what will happen...

That is the size of the 7zip archive I have and my POTC runs ok, with the random ctd every 1-2 days.

Your hardware is minimal for this mod unfortunately, but what really stands out is your lack of ram. You need twice that much to run smoothly, however after all these years it will probably be very difficult to find. That is probably the reason for the ctd.

Just to clarify something. If you have a corrupt download the filesize in most cases is still the same. Cause the filesize is first reserved on your harddisk and then "filled".

And 512 Mb RAM is only the memory of the medium video cards that are used today, not the memory of the PC itself. That you can still run some things with this is not a good enough reason for you not to kick this computer straight into the bin.

p.s. A normall computer for today should have 8Gb RAM, minimum 4 GB, and a video card that has memory itself 1 Gb.

Depens on which version of windows you are running.
If you are running vista+ you should have at least 2Gb because it uses 1Gb for itsself already. Where windows 7 sometimes can take up to 1.5 Gb of memory for itself.
Windows XP needed less memory for itself so it was able to run on less. Still with the POTC build mod you would like to have at least 2 Gb of memory with win XP else you will probally have problems indeed.

Welcome to the Poland, Boy - a place where things are really bad and it's getting even worse. But i guess it's not a main topic.

Still it can run almost everything from '05 and some of the '06. You can notice that beetween '05 and '06 is HUGE diffrence in sys requiments. For example if u compare PES 6 and PES 7 reqs.

I had a similar system until 2003. The GF3 was a good card and I liked it, but overall the system struggled. With XP one should have at least 1gb of ram for games. Methinks I used 2gb as there was a tweak that let one use up to 3.2gb of ram on a 32 bit system.

Don't get down on someone because he does not have the latest hardware. I spent decades trying to play catch up and one needs to spend $300USD per year just to keep up. Been doing it for a while too as I bought my first computer in 1983, a Commodore 64.

Ah, just remembered this. In the engine.ini have you tried setting it to 16 bit color and low texture quality?

I use strong words but they are not personally addressed.

As a person who is every now and then checking the prices of PCs, I can tell you that, for 200 euro you can buy a medium machine, that even if it is not gaming one, can do fairly good job in plenty of games tho not the latest. For 600 you can have a gaming one. Is this too much to spend for after 10 years doing nothing for your PC ? And Poland is a fckng rich country that exports meat everywhere around lol.

America is a rich country and I personally know people who are using 10-12 year old computers daily. My wife is one of those people as well as one of my brothers, and another brother's wife.
When I upgrade I give the old parts to charity so that the many poor people have something. $200USD is a lot of money to the working poor as well as students.

We are talking here about a necessity that wasn't touched 10 years. That can be only from negligence. People who work on computers just to enter in MSWord may use even 20 years old, it won't be noticed. But if one wants to be in the game world, there's no such thing. 200 I guess one spends just on cigarettes let's say for a few months.

Besides, for a person who spends 400 each year on update, sounds very dubious to find 200 big money for a whole computer price.
