Dutch Governor's quest

Mates, As many hours as I've played COAS, I'm just now getting into the Dutch Governor's quests.

Questions: Is it possible to defeat the English shore invasion on Jamaica south of Ft. Orange? I defeat the naval force without a problem, but that's one tough shore party!

How many men does it require? I tried over and over again with 900 men and with fighters and myself having all the good stuff at level 23 across the party.

I left to get more men, but Ft Orange gets sacked in the meantime and when you go back there's no one there and the entire town is on fire. Will Ft. Orange come back or will it remain destroyed for the rest of this game?

Will Stuyvesant give me anymore quests with this failure or is this the end of the questline? I really enjoyed the quests up to this point. The wild goosechase for intelligence on Moodyford and Picard to Morgan and Stuyvesant going back and forth between Haiti, Tortuga, Jamaica, Antigua and Curacao was quite a run. I hope it's not over.

Thanks to anyone that knows.

I do this mission with 2 or 3 ships loaded with crew, but it is unclear if the other vessels contribute.
However the first battle on beach is hard, but not impossible; the second, at the door of Fort Orange, is easier.
....
To know what a difficult battle, try the attack in Panama with Morgan ... :ko
....
P.S. However you must do the mission now, not in two phases.
You have to reload a old save and repeat the quest.

I actually experimented. I have three large ships in my squadron, but didn't notice any difference on the beach when I attacked with 300 men on each ship or when I moved over 900 men onto my ship. It looks like the same numbers on the beach. I shouldn't have tried this until after level 30 or 40 I guess. I can't beat them. I've tried and tried. Seems like the English have a real advantage in being able to reload their guns way too fast. Seems like that's where their biggest advantage is. I'm giving up on this battle.

Is strange! :shrug
You're well armed? Your fighters are well armed?
There are two weapons for every sailor?
The morale of the sailors is "heroic"?
....
P.S. What level of difficulty do you play?

Yes, yes and yes.

Captain level

One thing I was thinking is that the individuals must be aggregated. That's the only explanation for the same numbers of guys on both sides on the beach. I've noticed the same behavior on the boarding engagements, so why should it be any different. My guess is that if I had 1500 or 2000 men say, that the endurance/ability of my shore party would increase and the Brits would go down. I'm going to go back to an earlier save, buy an additional ship and fill every ship with max crew. If that don't work, I don't know what will. At least your comments let me know it's beatable. How many men did you use and what level of difficulty are you on.

Thanks for the helpful comments.

UPDATE: OK I finally beat this freakin quest. :modding

Some pointers:

- The game doesn't care how long you take to get the word of Moodyford's impending English invasion of Ft. Orange back to Stuyvesant. So you can use that time to get yourself in better shape.

- I went back and took missions, many prizes and many fights with undead until I leveled up to above 30 before I went to Stuyvesant.

- I sought after the toughest fighters I could find. I equipped them with the four barrelled pistols and best weapons I could lay my hands on.

- I ensured that both myself and my Bosun had the Allied Landing perk. If you don't have this then only the men on your ship can land.

- I pulled large ships out of storage and filled them with the best crew I could to max. So I had five ships with over 3000 men to land with. I ensured I payed bonuses until morale was at Heroic level.

- During the naval battle prior to my landing I didn't waste men on boarding but chose to sink the English naval Squadron Blockading the Shores of Negril instead(one Frigate, one Brig, and one Corvette).

Even with all this, it took me six or seven times replaying the battle to finally beat the British invasion force on the beach. Wow! What a fight! :ixi

I recommend that if you are playing at mid level difficulty or above (Captain in this case) that you not take this mission on until you are above level 30.

Hi Friends, Is there any possibility to reduce the game difficulty after starting the game? I am in difficulty level 'Commander' with current level of 20. However I still cannot beat the English soldiers landed in Fort Orange. My Dutch soldiers die out too quickly along with my officers. I have two man-of wars with 800 soldiers in each, escorted by a Frigate and Ship-of-the line with 290 and 540 soldiers respectively. Pls provide some guidance. I am almost going to abandon the game after almost over 50 mission attempts. Do I have to attack with more man-of-wars ? How to modify the difficulty level? Please help a fellow gamer in need !! Thanks in advance.

Ah yes! One of the MOST difficult battles in the entire game. Take heart that it is beatable. I have beat it on Corsair level numerous times and on a higher level once. The first time I beat it I played it probably fifty or more times before I beat it. Even now on Corsair with my experience it usually takes me ten times or so before I beat it.

I know of no way to downgrade difficulty but if you are playing with one of the GOF mods you could hit F11 and look over some of the cheat options like adding to your skills or even skipping the mission (F7). I've never used these but there may be a first time....who knows.

Also let me ask you....do you have the ship ability perk "Allied Troop Landing" because you need that one to get credit for all the men on all of your ships. If you don't have it then only the men on the ship you are on land in the attack.

It is beatable mate!!! Have you seen these vids? MK
