Solved During naval battle, the ships "health bars" doesn't change!

As i said, the "health" bar of the ships doesn't change during battle, no matter how bombarded it gets, neither does my ships "health" bar change. How do i fix this? Is it supposed to be like this?

I've installed the GoF mod.

Help please! //Magiclamp

Maybe then the Bombarddment is not accurate or strong enough. Health bars , i turned them off, but i still see the health declining on enemy ships when looking thru the Spyglass... works fine.
what are the ships involved, what are the cannon? what ammunition do you use and at what distance?

Oh, okey. Maybe that's the case, It's really early in the game. Maybe the mod adds that!
The ships were some lvl 7 ones, and the cannons were not any good ones.

And yes, through the spyglass i can see the damage.

But the thing i thought was weird was, when i got attacked near a fort, the fort started bombarding the pirates, and no damage was done!

A fort should be able to destroy a ship, right?

The gunners at the forts can't shoot worth a damn...
They use really awesome Cannons (42 and 96 lbs...) but some of these cannons are used like a mortar.
They miss a LOT.
and if the target ship is a small cutter, its not difficult to miss... not at all!

Forts Destroy ships.
the question is... if they miss a lot (9 out of 10 times), how LONG does it take?
:)

whats funny is that the pirates did not seem to make a run for it...
most enemies that attack me when i am under the protection of a fort, they just try to get the hell out of there...?

Oh ok, how do i buy new cannons for my ship then? It only has 4lb-cannons, and they suck. When i buy new ones i can't change them. :(

To replace with new ones, go to your ship's stats view (F2, click ships). The bottom 2 entries are for your guns. Top shows max size you can take, bottom shows # & size currently installed.

Now, click cannons at the bottom of the stats area. On the new view it brings up (Where it shows # of guns on each facing) click remove all. This pulls out your existing guns and adds them to your hold.

Now, in the lower left bit where it shows what cannon are in your hold, click the ones you want to install, then click "Fix all". This will install them on your ship. *You can only have 1 caliber cannon installed, so you'll need all of the new, heavier caliber, no mixing.

Oh okey thanks!

It's just that, I'ts so fucking hard! I play on sailor and it takes like forever to even have the ship down to half its health!? Then when that's done the ammo and weapon powders is out!

I don't know much about nautical battles but should it really take that much time? And yea, i shot down their main mast, and they have a fire onboard, then their health is at HALF?
Shouldn't that be a sign that you're completely done for?

My interest in nautical battles started in Empire total war, but there the ships gets destroyed much faster, i know the ships are bigger but yeah!

To become a good captain it takes WEEKS of daily playing.
and nautical battles lasted for hours, sometimes an entire afternoon when there were large formations involved.
Fire is only for show, for effect.

a ship has 3 stats, as you know.
sails, Hull, crew.

attack with sense.
shoot the sails to slow him.
shoot the hull to sink him.
shoot the crew to kill them.

shooting his crew will not weaken his hull. Shooting his masts will neer sink him.
shooting his hull does not kill his men. shooting his hull will not slow him down.

before you attack someone, figure out what you want to do, what your goal is.

sink him? use ball and bomb
want to have his ship? shoot his sails and then get close and use shrapnel to kill his guys.
run away, but he is faster? furl up your sails to protect them from damage, and shoot his sails. at some point decide you have a good chance to be faster than him... and make a run for it.

...figure out what you want, and have a plan.

and make sure you CAN win the engagement.
if you got a crappy boat with crappy guns and a crappy crew, it don't matter how long you shoot someone...
its gonna be HIM that sinks YOU.

so have a better boat, skills, guns and crew than your enemy. RULE the sea.
if not, get the hell out of there because it is not going to be you the attacker... it is going to be you the victim.
and his hull is going to seem impenetrable.

what ship you got at the moment?

Thanks for your answer! :) I really like the community of this game, who would have thought to get help with a fairly old unknown game like this? Wow!

My current ship is a Jamaican Patrol ship, it has 32 pieces of 4lb cannons at the moment.
But my main problem seems to be just that, my cannons are shitty! So currently I'm out sailing looking for some decent ships that can carry good cannons, or maybe as I've read upgrade my current ship in Bermuda ( Is this possible?)

The jamaican patrol ship can have 16lbs cannon, maybe 20lbs. or even 24lbs...
That is random.
go to your nearest friendly harbor, to the shipwright.

hit F2, and check out your Ship as you usually do.
see the stats of yozur ship in the center column of the screen?

note down the maximum cannon size for your ship, 16lbs, 20lbs or maybe even 24lbs
find the cannons where it says you have 32x4lbs cannon.
doubleclick that. a screen will pop up
now you can add or remove cannons as you wish.

remove all your cannons. the cannons will be removed from their fighting spot, and be stored as cargo.

talk to the shipwriight, and discuss about buying cannons.
sell the old cannons. they serve nothing.
Buy 32 pieces of new cannon, 16/20/24 lbs

option:
add an extra 2 to 4 spare cannon of the same caliber (you can only use one type of cannon... not mixing different ones)
...because if you are not really skilled in the gunnery domain, you might lose a few cannons in a fight.
That way you can get out of the fight and replace them immediately on the sea.

F2 again, double click the Cannon information that brings up the popup menu.
move the new cannons into position: click the big cannon type, and say "fix all".

now you have new cannons

-bigger cannons need more reloading time.
-bigger cannons shoot further, deal more damage
-take a look around the menu when you buy cannons, the numbers are explained there

=======================================
Other info
Culverines: different type of Cannon, shoots farther, weighs more, loads slower.
use these when you and your gunner, and your sailors are really good at using cannons, because of the long loading times.

Old game, yes...
but its not about new or old.
this is a good one, that is why it is still used.
