did someone build already times a city?

Making one or more locations and moving the whole game (whichever one) to another setting are two different things.

Captain Maggee and I were doing some slight brainstorming on how to handle Singapore.
What we came up with is to add an island at the edge of the map (similar to Isla de Muerte code-wise) and when you go to 3D sailing mode there,
you'll be at Singapore and several months game time are automatically added.
We might be able to do something similar with European ports.

I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me where they've seen that ship I posted before. I'm pretty sure you all have seen it before. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Actually I dont get, if I were Russian my greatest dream would be to build St.Petersbourgh. Russia had the largest navy in the world.

That picture? Probably the amsterdam or the batavia, from you the look of your grinning face? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Nooo it must be the Royal Prince or George, surrendering to de Ruyter during the dutch-british wars of course? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

This is what I wanted all the time. And if you can use 3DS as an editor, I could probably use the ones I am used to.

But that would be thousands of miles of coastline to make europe, would´nt it? London, Amsterdam, Lisboa, Gibraltar, Venice..aaargh dare I dream?..Copenhagen! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> And Lübeck of course.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

OHwowowo! keep Cool <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Europe is thousand of seamiles away. Let us start with one town and than we look where we are.

@Pieter

I swear i´ve seen this ship in a harbour but where it was... ... i dont know!?!

You know, its funny...I collected tons of pics and plans the last month of the baltic region, because europe is my dream, its what I want.
And just like you, I thought of linking to locations far away, because who wants to directsail all the way to Africa and India anyway?! (ok, Morgan probably wouldl <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

Could we sack the caribbean and map from scratch in any way, you think? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/389_robber.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":robber:" border="0" alt="389_robber.gif" />

Copenhagen around 1650.

But better build Amsterdam, Pieter got there first.

Thats what i think about. We use the caribbean waters for europe (deleting all locations) and when you wish to sail to the Caribbean the game must load the Caribean or Eastindia or the end of the world <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Dont know how philippe and pirate_kk got those new islands into the map, we better ask them about it.

You have to re-map the textures, when import the buildings into Maya, right?

nope. i model, export to .obj and import in to maya. in maya i only load the textures and than export to .gm finish.

first we need the model and than have PirateKK and Phillipe (or someone who wants to help) the mission to bring it in the game.

A terraingenerator produced island, St.Thomas, made from an image (heightmap)

The heightmap I quicky produced, I did not include the color-variations to make soft beaches and mountains - just plain 2-coloured greyscale. These can be exported to .obj

So it is possible to add in a new town
That is AWESOME!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
I'm looking forward to see what you come up with Yo Ho Ho

On another note I think it may be possible to go to the end of the map like Pieter said how we were brainstorming to handle Singapore and add the months and then have it load a new World Map which is Europe.
If we can manage this we could also do Asia and sailing to World's End. It will require a lot of work though

There is (or was?) a online pirate game Voyage Century Online with cities, islands, ports villages etc etc from all over the world. Most east Asia locations but also european towns. They have another way of making walkfiles and I cannot get them to work but maybe it's no a big problem...

that´s helpful. Than you can make europe and i add the town´s. we can save much time with the generator.

The updated worldmap models came from Russian mods and we just used them.
Pirate_KK WAS wondering about swapping or adding new worldmaps. Maybe somebody can try that too?
But I'm not sure if our current game engine can handle non-island land. CoAS can, but I'm not sure about PotC. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Do you know now...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

As the 3D sailing is not limited in size, the only thing which are limiting the size of the world in the game is the worldmap.
The WDM_MAP_TO_SEA_SCALE is the ratio between the size of the worldmap and the 3D sailing mod. With this ratio, we could virtually increase the size of the worldmap by increasing this ratio. I said virtually because the size of worldmap GM stay the same so the counterpart is by doing that, you would have to change positions of the islands in worldmap and decrease their size. In fact model of the worldmap would need to be completly reworked by a modder <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" />

I did have a try of this in the past by mixing all the islands of AOP and POTC in the same worldmap. The result was not very beautiful in worldmap because some islands had no model in worldmap (in the battlerocks style) but it was very interesting to navigate in directsailing mod <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> Picture is a part of the worldmap

That IS cool! How'd you do that? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

In Aop the island models of worldmap were not included in the worldmap model, there were small island models in the same directory so by using the inez tool i was able to re-included them in the worldmap model at the positions where i wanted them (According to the code). I used the little palm trees model to represent the POTC ones. But as i'm not a modder, i could sail through all islands in worldmap mod <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

The more interesting part for me was, as i said above, to increase the size of the world by increasing the WDM_MAP_TO_SEA_SCALE value. In fact, if you increase it, 1 mile in 3D sailing will be smaller in worldmap than with the original value so you virtually increase the size of the map. That's probably the only way to increase the size of the world because i think that the physical size of the worlmap model is limited by the game engine <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Isn't the physical size of the worldmap somehow limited in the worldmap GM file? We won't know until we try to modify the worldmap though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

This is really exciting... Being able to make new locations adds so many things we can do and even resizing the islands will be really cool <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I'm not sure if we should go the smaller sized islands though if we work out how to transfer between world maps.
Better to have bigger islands rather than smaller ones just for our convience

With a realistically sized worldmap that includes Europe, you'd have a huge bit of ocean in there with nothing, aka the Atlantic Ocean.
Boring for gameplay and the islands would be scaled accordingly and thus become absolutely tiny.
In other words, we'd have to first try to see if we can't physically enlarge the worldmap.

And also figure out something to prevent you from sailing <i>waaay</i> too long over a stretch of nothingness.
Either:
- Swap worldmaps (can that be done?)
- Make a bigger worldmap and teleport your worldmap ship to Europe and back to save you sailing time.
- Add new "Europeon" islands that are simulated to be further away by just adding several months to the calander.

I would say a mix of point 1 and point 3 if it is possible
Have you sail to a certain spot and then add several months and go into the European worldmap
That would be cool!
