There's another way to get rid of a cursed albatross.

There's a limit on how many different items you can have in your inventory. Load yourself up to the maximum. Weapons having half a dozen quality levels helps here.

Give one of your items to an officer. Pick up another item.

Give the cursed albatross to your officer and take back the item you previously gave. The albatross tries to fly back into your pocket, can't because your pocket is full, and disappears.

Now put all that stuff into your ship's locker ready for next time.
