WIP Dauntless and Interceptor Texture Upgrades

Any changes to the GM require the following:
1. Convert model to OBJ using GM Viewer
2. Import OBJ into Maya
3. Fix whatever went wrong in this export process
4. Make whatever adjustments are desired to the model file
5. Export again, with the correct settings so the new model will work just as well as the old one


Only exceptions are:
- HEX Editing the model to apply a different texture; this does not affect the UV map in any way
- Adding extra details using TOOL; as @Armada mentioned, these extra details can be affected by the "reverse lighting bug"

In other words, not a whole lot that can be done to the model itself without a LOT of extra work.

It would be far easier if we had the original Maya source files. But for most ships, we don't.

Well poo. Why does everything have to be so complex? :facepalm

Let me know what you think, @Pieter Boelen and @Armada . I hope she's to your liking. I worked hard on her. Finally had to hand paint the name on.

@Legendary_Spider, she looks beautiful! It's a shame the model itself has some limitations, but the textures bring out the best in her.
If I had unlimited time, I would build a new version of the ship from scratch... we'll have to keep dreaming, for now. :rolleyes:

One small thing I'm not sure about is the dark blue; currently, it looks very dark, so it's hard to make out much detail. Do you think it should be made a bit brighter?

About UVs: if you follow my tutorial on importing models into Maya, you should be able to edit the UVs yourself. This ship should be much easier to work with than the Dutchman as she has far fewer polygons.

I was actually thinking the same. Easy fix.

Sounds good. I'm still hoping to be able to learn to model one day as well. That way we wouldn't have to sit on our hands and wait for a modeler to come around.

Well poo. I keep making her more and more blue and lighter and lighter, but she still looks black in game. I think if you strain your eyes, you can make out some blue in the game. But looks how blue she looks in photoshop. Somewhere in between in the GM viewer.

Should I just make it an absurdly bright blue? Maybe then it will look right in the game. :shrug
 
Your screenshots do look notably dark.
Would you mind uploading your files so I can see what she looks like in my game?
Maybe that Intel Fix is throwing things out of whack too? :facepalm
 
Uninstalled the ENB. Looks SLIGHTLY lighter. But not much. Maybe I should just adjust my ingame brightness. It's at default.

I uploaded it. See how it looks in your game and I'll adjust it accordingly.

Also... Holy crap, the Interceptor IS fast in this test. 18 knots in 18 knot winds.
Admittedly in Arcade Game Mode. But still....

Alright then, so it's not my game. I guess I'll just make it absurdly bright blue so it will look right in the game then. I'll get it right.
