Daggers Vs Swords

probabaly not `do-able` but itd be cool if there was a way that you could equip yourself with both a dagger and a sword and when you hit E depending on what the circumstance is you drew the sword or dagger...

like for fighting in bars etc where there not room to swing a dead parrot never mind a broadsword youd draw the shorter and more nimble dagger.

where as on deck or out in the jungle where you have more room you would pull out your sword.

As it is in the game no one really uses the dagger which is a shame as all pirates would have a pistol on their belt a sword in their hand and a dagger secreted about their person.

A hard task to be sure. We're still trying to get two pistols in the game, let alone two swords.

I figuired that itd be difficult...

I supose find how to do one and youll find how to do the other... that is asuming you dont mean having dualing pistols as then youd have to make animations etc Id asume.

anyhow I jus thought id throw the suguestion into the mix.... not because my jolly roger has a dagger on it or anything...
 
Maybe it wouldn't be as difficult as you might think - set up a quick button for selecting or releasing weapons you designate. You could do one for a second pistol, and one for a dagger or a sword. It wouldn't hang on you VISIBLY, but could be a concealed weapon. Heh. I'd like to be able to `semi-equip` a few different pistols, which you'd draw and fire in succession, since you only get one shot out of each. In effect, a bandolier of `one-shot` handguns, as pirates tended to have.
 
Yep, that would be cool. I think (tho I am unsure of this) it should be able to be done in the inventory interface - create a section that is equipped weapons - blades and pistols separate - with a hotkey to switch. It can't be all that difficult?

Yes it really is a shame. There has been a lot of talk of equiping more than pistol... How about this, as it stands now you equip your pistol of choice in the inventory screen and then see the blue bar above your icon. If its a double or quad pistol you have more bullets. Perhaps we could remove the idea of having a `double-barreled` and `quad-barreled` pistol, and instead allow the player to equip up to four separate pistols. Each time another pistol is added, another ball appears above the icon. You would only see the one pistol on the model, but `functionality-wise` it would feel like you had several.

Thoughts?
 
There is a problem. The sword will always be better than the dagger, so the player will use sword, even in Tavern.
But if you'll up the dagger propertions, it will be better than the sword and player will use dagger and not sword. You can add quests, when captains take your sword and you left just with dagger, but it will be hard.
 
I agree. For the most part the dagger, like so many other items sold in the game, seem to be nothing more than pretty things to look at. You might have an unequiped dagger in your inventory to "pretend" that you have it under your coat. You might buy extra `spy-glasses` for all of your officers... etc. But like you said, as long as one is better, than that is the one that will be equiped.
 
I'm for the `more-is`-better approach: redo the inventory.

So that it separates "ready" inventory (your sword, your `one-to`-four "ready" pistols, your clothes, and some money, and jewelry and documents and things) and, um, excess inventory (extra swords, idols, things like that.
With a strict limit on what you can carry `ready-to`-hand.
Then, have those buttons for swapping pistols and swords from the ready inventory.

Morrowind's a model for this, though I'm for drastically cutting down carrying what's not equipped (i.e. _one_ sword, and it's either equipped or not; sure you can carry documents in your pockets, but spare _swords_?)
 
I'd like to see a `re-do` on the inventory, Nathan! One where you can separate the good stuff you want to keep from the junk you want to sell, and sell all on that list in one click. That would be SO helpful!!!

And the "ready" inventory for the `hot-keyed` weapons... So there would be three or perhaps even four inventories, and a way to swap things out to the other lines...

So SELL (junk), KEEP (potions, charms, extra weapons), READY SWORDS, and READY PISTOLS, or READY WEAPONS ?

And yes, limits...

One thing that is concerning me tho - when you equip a pistol, it takes some time for it to be loaded, it does not load immediately. To be effective, this has to be something that is already primed for battle. Pick, bam, pick, bam, pick, bam, pick, bam, SWORD. Because you'd be able to keep them loaded prior to battle. Once you shoot them, they'll take time to reload - WHEN you've sheathed your sword, just like the regular game has it now.

When boarding the F2 screen is disabled. I would assume we would need to reactivate it for this to work.
 
I see what your saying about the need to reevaluate the stats of the dagger to make it usable... you could drop the block down to zero if it isnt already and then up the damage and piercing... to make it a competitive (but still inferior) weapon with the sword... combining this with rush which is the kinda thing one does with a dagger would be pretty effective) I mean you can prob have a very sharp dagger if you like and sticking through your ribs will kill you just as quick a sword... so why not have it more powerful than it is currently.

the hot key select for the different weapons sounds cool...

I had been thinking the inventory was a bad system thats in there currently...
u shud have the one Junk thing as you were saying thta everything goes into by default when u kill people or take them from a chest... then u shud be able to pick from the inventory screen, the cream of the crop to add to your Wanted Items (spyglasses, idols, potions etc) or Ready Weapons ( maximum of 2 swords, 1 dagger and 4 pistols) or something.

and you could sell everything in your junk like Catalina says, with one click!
