F8 key acelerates time. Make sure ye have the last Eidos patch. This fixes most crewmen actions and ensures ye can accelerate time (press F7 to slow it back down again).

I'm playing Cutthroats with patch v7 in windows XP (AMD 3000Mhz, 448MB RAM. It runs and pretty well. Actually it crushed a couple of times.
I'm only experiencing one major problem, only in one of my saved games: I have 12 ships, of which one Galleon and one Frigate (the Galleon was a French one and just surrendered). I went to a beach for some careening work; sailing back I go to a near port, I dock, and... the ports has the beach first screen, and you cannot trade nor using the shipyard, even though it should be a friendly port. But worse, when I sail from the port, the map is just blank, the pins which indicate the ports have disappeared, if I go to Crow's Nest view there is no indication arrow of route, port, nearer fleet, nor wind. Well, it becomes impossible to play, even if you go around randomly you can no longer enter a port, so you cannot sell or buy anything. You are doomed to sail forever like the Flying Dutchman.
Does anyone of you have any idea? Do you think they will issue a v.8 patch?.

How can you install Cutthroats in XP?? It cannot be done! how do you do it?? please help!!! ARRGH!!!!!

I just put the CD inside and installed the game. That's it. For more information, I have a version of the game made by Sold Out, it included patch v.6, I got patch v.7 in the Internet (from Eidos page). My XP is quite new, I had to change my old computer a couple of months ago, maybe three. But Cutthroats gave me no Installation problems.

Hello, friends.
I must say that I'm enjoying Cutthroats a lot. Anyway (it seems there's always an "anyway" with this game), it seems to me that in order to perform a mission I have to attack a port, even a friendly one. Am I right? Does it really mean that, for example, I have to set fire to a town and kill all the people who don't surrender to me and increase my infamy all over the Caribbean and ruin my reputation (OK, Pirates can have a reputation...) with friendly Governors just to... deliver a piece of map to Mr Wright in Nassau?
If there's a better way to perform missions, please let me know!!!

I have a game called "Cutthroats" that I haven't played in a long time but it doesn't have a graphic interface so I was really confused. Hehe. I clicked the link and sure enough it's not even related to the game I have. I have one of those old text adventure games - you are to salvage treasure from sunken ships. The same book lists the game "Plundered Hearts", which is also a pirate based text adventure game. I never made it through either game.

I'll have to see if I can find this other "Cutthroats" and try it out.

love this game. though it's easy to exploit such as marine tactic

get all marines (fighters to borad other ships)
start taking some ships. and get some officers, gunners and sailors when you feel the need
get more marines and soon you'll have a lard marine army
take a city, keep infamey down
get more marines, more officers
become part of a nation (not pirate)
get more marines, more officers
sack some ships to hold more marines and food
get more marines, more officers
start rampage across carribean and sack every city and make to your nation
once you take a city to max profit (you get more then ships can hold)
go to main map and click on town
you'll find that ALL the goods you have are taken by the nation, even those that are on the dock.
get more marines and start taking some gallys
sack bigger cities
do same crows nest trick
get more marines, more officers
soon alot of cities will be in your countries possesion and because of all the gallys you have and officers you'll by now you'll have an army of near 500-2k
now go to an island of your empire sell all goods and buy jewls then sell goods buy jewls
if you have excess go around to other rich islands until all your goods are sold
continue above until you have no more goods and if you can sell the jewls but not vital
now go to island and disembark ALL marines, gunners and extra sailors (but keep min amount of sailors to sail)
now go to crow nest view, this by-pass's muntiny
quick sail back to island
divid plunder and you'll be so rich you'll start to cry you might be at the top with no infamey and lots of cash

well thats the easy way to win :p
